Solid Engine Mounts

Folks, just kicking some ideas about. Solid engine mounts, ali block, good idea, bad idea?

I know folks have sloid mounted the V6's in the past without too much trouble, what about RV8s and AJPs?

Inho, your just storing up too much trouble, yes it might stiffen things up a bit, and keep the engine weight better controled, but the risk of chassis flex breaking the block, or all the extra vibration killing other components its too high.

I'd want at least a little compliance, even if you make up some engine mounts using teflon suspension bushes.

The guys that do the superchargers also do some poly Rv8 engine mounts, maybe a good compromise.

That's all well and good for mounting an RV8 I suppose...

The AJP8 has been used in single seater applications where it is used as a stressed member (including one TVR had themselves, an ex David Coulthard chassis .

My LS engine and gearbox are solid mounted. No issues as yet, other than having to loctite every bolt on the car.

I'm fairly sure that both Racespeed and GTF have come away from solid mounts now.

Too many stresses and missalignment worries for little/no gain.

Tim's sagaris is all solid mounted, but as Andy says everything has to be loctited.

Cheers folks, I'm erring towards not-solid mounting, but using mount that will keep things relatively well located but give some degree of isolation, maybe a generic polyurethane top hat...
