According to this, Derek Gardner, designer of the Tyrell six wheeler, has just passed away, aged 79. Ironic that the latest Motor Sport should carry an article about it. RIP.

Very sad news.
Gardner had a very keen eye for detail. Where Colin Chapman's Lotus cars would go for innovation, Gardner's Tyrrells were relatively basic but they were superbly built. Gardner would spec needle roller bearings over rose joints where possible. Failures from the car's design were very rare.
A sad loss to Motorsport.
