threat to forest rallying in the uk?

ok,
it's a slow night & we're watching the 10 o clock show on channel 4 & there's a relativey interesting piece regarding privatisation.

the reason it has become topical is that it's now being said that the government is trying to sell off the forestry commission. this would obviously be of some concern to uk rallying as forest stages are an integral part of the sport.

now i don't want to make a political post on pistonheads but regardless of famous names like grizedale & keilder, but this would have some pretty far reaching implications for not just rally sport but lovers of the great outdoors in general.

does anyone else have any more information or views on this?

Your problem started when you were watching Right-On Lefties Live. They are selling the lease to the land with restrictions, the last thing a private company will do is stop something they can make money out of. Rallying's registration fees may go up (I don't know how much the government got out of them) but they won't stop them.

If its any comparison, most (non-native)forests down here in NZ are privately owned and there is still plenty of rallying happens in them as well as on public roads.

TBH, from where i'm, sitting the MSA has done a pretty good job of killing clubman rallying in the Uk on its own without any outside help...............

You gotta admire C4 news for being so on the ball. It was only announced last October, and C4 run it as a story the day before the announcement that it has been canned...
