Im quite surprised that his contract allowed him to go out full bore racing in another discipline - and wind up ruining a year in the pinnacle of motorsport.
But despite all that, I still agree with his decision to go and take part - if there was no risk, these guys probably wouldnt get the kick they needed from it...?

kubica wouldn't be kubica if he didn't want to rally. he finds it a different challenge to F1 and loves the experience, and knows to drive a rally car at a top level you need to be something pretty special and wants to push himself
behind him 100%, wishing him a very speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing him back next year

This is something he wants to do, partly as he says rallying helps develop his driving skills, and his team agreed to it so yes.
He's clearly not only a great talent, but a true motorsport enthusiast in the fortunate position to be able to follow his dreams.

I think it's great that they let him. Obviously this time there have been problems but it is IMHO very bad luck. A lot of the sports that the drivers do to keep fit are dangerous. I'm often disapointed with McLaren for holding drivers back from doing other things. I'd like to see Lewis and Jens getting involved in something different. For example i have my fingers crossed that when the McLaren road car is built in Le Mans spec, they get two of the seats.
Why shouldnt he go rallying? It was agreed with Renault that he could go rallying so i personally dont see the problem.
If he was been banned from rallying would the ban have extended to driving to the shops, swimming, flying a helicopter, getting on a plane, etc etc.
He could have had the accident doing any of the above & he could just have easily hurt himself badly falling down the stairs at home.

Even if i don't understand where the opinions come from. FB, Robert would have done what he did when he drove for BMW and was banned from rallying. He would have done what the McL drivers do each year when they're banned from rallying. Robert came 4th in the championship with BMW so it didn't seem to do him any harm. So, I respect people's opinions but i certainly can't understand them.
On the whole though, I *think* people want to go back to an age that didn't really exist.
