Just wanted to get an idea of how many of us will be ready for the 2011 launch day, we will make it but it will be tight as we still have a lot to do before the car is race ready. Replacing the existing fuel tank with an endurance unit has been tricky as getting hold of one has been long winded to say the least, hopefully we now have one but not a day too soon.

It's been a long cold and miserable winter, so the prospect of getting back on track with this new car is something we are really looking forward to, and lets face it, with all the fairly down beat news coming out of our TV news channels and newspapers, I for one will be focusing on the positive that racing provides, budget is again hard to come by, sponsors are thin on the ground, but hey, you only live once and as Steve McQueen once said, albeit in character,

"Racing is life... everything before and after is just waiting." driving

As it says on the box really, everyone who is ready or near ready pitches up with their cars and support teams to chat about the coming season to those in the media who might be interested. Britcar officials usually make a few announcements and some testing takes place, track rides are sometimes offered to some media representatives in cars with second seats fitted. It's generally a fun day with bags of "Hail fellow, well met" and non offensive banter, an element of bullst about a given cars performance or expectation of same, some discussions about classes and power loggers/data thingies, if it rains then we all save money on not having to buy new slicks (yet) and if it's sunny then the freezing wind chills you to the bone and getting in the car and keeping warm becomes a prime objective hehe

This year the new MSA status will be a topic of conversation for the talented young guns looking for advancement and for us older competitors and one time ex champions/class winners who have limited expectations of being offered the chance of joining the BRDC for it may finally give those who want it, the possible opportunity of adding another (3 required) recognised title/classification if all goes well,to the BRDC application form as a Britcar competitor instead of having to go back to racing in British GT a prospect cost and other wise, that has little to justify it, been there, done that, and didn't enjoy it that much !!!. Having said that, one still needs to be invited to apply for BRDC membership by existing members as proposer and seconder and then go through a selection process and if you get black balled, eek then that's your lot. smokin

Anyway, I digress, in short it's a good day all round and a must if you are in the media and a fan/follower of all things Britcar

Does that mean the day is open for any old rif-raf to come have a peek?
I'm in the area this week & if that's the case I might as well dust the camera off

Have the BRDC said they'll include the championship in membership criteria?

I think they review it at the end of the first season as a MSA approved championship so I assume that will be looked at prior to or at the beginning of 2012.

Chris, the first port of call for that is the official Britcar site. Nothing on there at the moment. I seem to remember from last season they appear during the week beforehand.

EDIT - as a caveat I could be completely wrong, of course smile

A very good day from a spectators point of view. Highlights for me being car 85(?) not knowing what a red flag was, people being told off on the parade lap for going too fast biggrin and car 5 getting the pedals mixed up and coming to a stop in the gravel next to us!

A couple of shots here:

MX-5!

The roll in the corners eek
