British Business Malaise
Discussion
Not exclusively a monk about TVR related business, but why is it that in the current climate of British belt tightening, it is still dammed difficult to get customer satisfaction? I am currently battling to get deliveries for:
a: a race seat harness - no warm feeling that my order is in hand.
b: decals for my Griffith - no response to my request for a delivery date - this is a repeat order for decals I have had from the same company before.
c: replacement front discs for my Griffith - no response from the company that supplied them originally, despite 3 phone calls.
Am I a voice in the wilderness or are other Challenge drivers equally challenged when it comes to customer service/the prospect of spending money with so-called suppliers?!?

I work in an industry where service is EVERYTHING - if you don't deliver then the customer will go elsewhere. I apply that same philosophy to my own business dealings out of work. Call up your "suppliers" if they don't answer then leave a message threatening to take your business elsewhere unless you get a call back within a given period. If they dont call back then do exactly that - look elsewhere! As for delivery dates etc - if they can't provide your goods by your deadline then find someone that can - there's plenty of people out there that do want your money/business!

I have generally had great service from the people I use for race car parts and services, these being:
Track V Road
Jonny Greenwood (Blackpool)
TVR Car Parts
Merlin Motorsport
Camskill
Burton Power
Car builder solutions
Anglo American Oil Co
Questmead
Grantura Engineering
Any company who do not fill me with confidence after first contact are off the tender list!
In my line of work, customer is King and they expect us to deliver on time and on budget. 99% of the time we do and I expect the same from my suppliers whether its for work or play.

:OK guys so maybe I am a voice in the wilderness, but I have come to the conclusion that:
a: there is perhaps a disconnect between what company managers/owners direct/expect should happen on the shop-floor and what actually does happen when Joe Bloggs telephones requesting availability and price for race-car parts.
b: the experience I have gained by fostering contacts with local companies in person pays off and you have a better chance of getting good service cos they know you! E.G. my American front brake discs are now coming from Andy Robinson Racing, one mile down the road who air-freights parts from the USA once a month and had no problem dealing with my request, unlike a well-known TVR dealership who couldn't be a***d to answer my phone-calls!
And believe it or not, I have had quite a good day at work! ! !
