F1 Australia early risers - don't rely on iPhone alarm!!

The bug ridden alarm system on IOS4 caused all sorts of problems last autumn when the clocks went back yet alarms went off an hour offset as if the clocks hadnt changed, and it seems its highly likely to cause similar issues this time round, so don't rely on your iDevice to wake you up in time for the GP tomorrow morning!!

Just had a thought, I'm going to use the countdown timer as a backup alarm which I assume (hope) doesn't get adjusted half way through the night and lose an hour, just over 6.5 hours until the coverage starts, so must get to bed!

my windows phone changed before i went to bed at 1am, but i pressed cancel went i updated the alarm, so it woke me up at 5am bst. whoops!

Same. My iPhone 4 updated it's time on its own over night and the alarm went off exactly when it should of.

Interestingly I think the problem last time was only on alarms that were already set. If you deleted them and set them up again they worked fine.

Yeh mine did too, backed up with the countdown timer which wasnt required in the end. Will see what happens tomorrow morning with my weekday repeat alarms for work though which were the alarms that suffered last time, might have to instigate the backup again just in case!

No they didnt! The alarms effected were repeat alarms that werent repeated every day, so every weekday ticked for example. Even if you deleted them and recreated fresh, the alarm still went off an hour earlier than the time shown, so an alarm that said 7am would still go off at 6am! It was only when the US switched to their winter time a week or so later that everything came back in line and fixed itself, so perhaps because they change to summer time before us means it didnt affect Europe this time round.

No, the reason they were not affected this time round is due to the fact that the problem was fixed ages ago via an update.

But if you read the link in my original post, there were still some issues when the US switched to summertime a few weeks ago, it might not be exactly the same issue but IOS's ability to cope with daylight saving certainly hasn't been completely fixed.

So use a different alarm app? Not sure why people struggle so much.

It seems the issue in the US earlier this month was the clock itself going an hour back rather than forwards so however smart you thought you were being, the alarm would still have gone off at the wrong time had the same happened here.

Anyway, this wasnt intended to be an in depth dissection of Apple's cockups or how to overcome it, last night it was unclear what would happen so it was merely a reminder for today's race.

Didn't need it, luckily, as I had no idea of these problems occuring.

Gotta love kids - my daughter woke up and came into the bedroom about 15 minutes before the race, climbing all over me to get in bed with us!! Just before giving her a rocket for waking me up I looked at the clock, thanked her and ran downstairs to watch the race. Good girl

I'm surprised that the Windows phone wasn't sitting there as if it were brand new due to a "critical update" (another bug fix for their flakey virus susceptible rubbish) overnight, with all of your data lost and the date reset to 1st Jan 1980.......
