So, this year's Renault/Lotus is yet further proof of my long held theory of a good paintjob equating to success on the track.

Visualise if you will the classic Rothmans Williams Renault in 1997, and the horrendous mess of the Winfield sponsored car of 1998. Oh dear.

Now it's Renault's turn: The 2005/2006 Renault - Great paint scheme, won the title.

Then it went all ING, and a horrible mish-mash of red, orange AND yellow (great!) Instant demotion to the midfield.

Last year, a definite improvement, harking back to the 1970s with the black and yellow. This year - great! Black and gold, classic livery, and BOOM! A podium.

I wonder if a graphic designer could take the Seagrave award from Mr Newey next year...?

Red bull and toro Rosso have always looked (near as makes no difference) the same.

I think the engineering staff still have a big impact. smile

Virgin and HRT both had nice liveries. It didn't take them very far up the field. tongue out

This is a great theory, you know.

This:

Gave way to this:

No sponsor logos, just a nice simple white colour with some highlights. Back of the grid to world champions!

yes

Even Chapman had realised by 1973 that it needs to be black and dark yellow to show up on TV.

Anyway, it's completely rubbish marketing wkery.
