Making Rallying exciting again

Since the end of the 90's top flight rallying for me has really gone down hill these days i prefer to go see some historic rallying. Bring back group B !!

The events just don't feature enough mileage IMO. Something like the RAC, a true car breaker and endurance test would be perfect. A crappy 4-pot shopping trolley does nothing for me, I would far rather watch MK2 Escorts

Some serious rose tinted spectacles. Fiesta are shopping trolleys but most rally cars including the mini, escort and that was a 4-pot, even the group b cars most are based on shopping trolleys 205, metro, delta. But i agree that the rallying has become dull to watch and mainly down to one man seb. Nobodys been able to touch him only gronholm could match him. But i think the new era will bring back the excitment. The new cars look good and with mini coming back, vw also entering next year things are due to take of again. Also seb shouldn't be to far away from retiring so should bring more closer rallying between the other drivers.

Mk2 Escort 1300 4 door. In a supermarket car park. It appears to be a car with a rather low powered 4 cylinder engine being used to carry shopping.

Sorry, it was a crap way to phrase it. I meant to say that they are all 4 pot, 4wd hatchback derivations, rather than a nice wide range like we used to see

its time for a revolution. the current format needs an alternative so heres my plan.

use rage buggies or something similar and GPS/sat nav. drivers turn up with their buggy and are given a route through the forest, set off at one minute intervals as normal etc etc. does away with co-driver and means that everyone has the same pace notes. surely it cant be that hard and the technology is all ther ein the open market.

If you want to see a variety of cars go and watch any national or club event and you'll get exactly that, escorts of all ages, 6r4's (or 6r2's), wrc's, s1600's, kit cars and wide selection of fwd 4wd and rwd cars

I enjoy watching escorts don't get me wrong though in my view a wrc car being driven on its limit is more impressive but you don't see it happen outside of a wrc event or a few drivers in the uk that can really push them.

While it would be great to have longer forest events the way the forestry commisson charge the vast majority of people would not be able to afford it, the entry fees are already high enough

i think the excitement is coming back. The hype surrounding the MINI reminds me a little of the 205 group B when that made its debut. If it as quick as the 205 was, and Meeke can win with it then interest in rallying in the UK will increase. Its still very popular in France/Finland.

Having said that I'd like to see longer rallies that travel the country, the return on Sunday spectator stages, a bit more power in the cars, and a couple of more manufacturers. Most of which I think is going to happen.

so carry on with the current set up but dont cry when no one wants to compete anymore and events are cancelled. entries are probably down compared to a few years ago and surely anything that can keep the sport going should be investigated. think of it as an loose surface sprint....

I think populatarity would improve if they had decent TV coverage, and even mentions on the bbc/itv news or something in the sport section like F1 does, it seems to be that you have to be a 'hardcore' fan to know that the rallying is on, then find it on DAVE (is it still on DAVE?) and follow it. Got to admit, Ive not been bothered with WRC for a few years, more so since Loeb has won everything, i just can't be bothered to watch it. I miss the BBC coverage of old!

In fact, first time in 3years that ive just visited wrc.com.

Even watching videos on youtube, i'd rather watch the UK rallying than any WRC ones.

it'd bring the speed down while at the same time making it all a bit scarier and twitchier.
