Horrific accident, thankfully one that we don't see all that often anymore (regarding the car going up in flames).

The "cars of the future" will have the fuel tank mounted in front of the rear axle.

To be fair it was a 100mph shunt up the rear, that doesn't happen often! I'm sure they will be looking at ways to improve things though.

If it was up to the fia, limiting cars to 80mph would be a start.

My presumption would be a rolling start would be safer, just less exciting, than a grid start.

Yowsers, they were very lucky. I don't know how much it would have helped, but the yellow flags only began to wave as the impact happened. Probably would have made zero difference I guess!

In the Ginetta race this weekend I thought it odd that despite the frantically waved flags right opposite the stalled front row car, drivers didn't take much notice. I'm commenting from an armchairs point of view though and dont have experience of starting a race other than karts. Obviously its the most hectic part of the race, but if there's yellows waved from the pitwall you've got to assume there's a stalled or very slow car up ahead.
