I’m surprised there hasn’t been anything on here about the WRC finale this weekend in Sardinia, our very own Elvyn Evans could win the title.
It was even on BBC news this morning.
As I write this he’s 6th but currently 4 points ahead of Solberg.
I really hope he can get enough points to win.
Fingers crossed the Hyundai chaps will disrupt the top points from Toyota.

I’m really disappointed that rallying gets such little coverage these days.

It’s a real enthusiast sport, and I’ve done my share of standing in freezing fields late at night to see the spectacular driving. But, much rather be sitting in a nice warm armchair watching brilliant camera footage on a big screen.

Formula One seems to have sucked all the attention away from so much other motorsport with its wall-to-wall broadcast coverage.
Yet, in the multi-discipline special events, such as Race of Champions, Rally Drivers often outperform the F1 drivers.

Good luck to Evans

Have been watching it on TNT Sports or the HBO Max app when it's not in the VirginMedia schedule.

Sadly we’ve lost so many special stages it’s become very niche. Single site tarmac stage rallies are still pretty popular, I gather but forest rallies seem to be significantly on the decline

As a sport It just doesnt work for tv without huge infrastructure, the days of fixed cameras at multiple points of the stage won t happen again as no one will invest in that kind of setup.

They can used drones etc to chase cars but that only works to a certain degree, it requires fixed point tracking so you only see the car from one angle, or a live pilot which is costly and really challenging somewhere like Finland or GB

So you get what we have now, brief moments of on-stage action and loads of post stage interviews.

Rally-Cross works well on TV, as can Super Special Stages and Parallel Sprints.

The sport has been on just about every free to air channel in the UK plus some others, it just doesnt and never really has worked as a tv sport. You either follow live which is what teams and WRC want as it is current, or better you ahve a review show fairly soon afterwards.

it simply does not work live and it never really has.

It is a spectator sport pure and simple

The rules dont help, they keep changing their bloody minds, and even though fans have known for years what is needed is a sort of posh WRC2 category they still keep umming and aahing about the rule set, which has turned people off.

Also the promoter chases money more than tradition so we have no real UK rally, no Germany anymore, yet we go to ridiculous places where there really is no heritage just because their tourist board pays.

The calendar is a joke, has been for many years

We SHOULD have SanRemo, Acropolis a proper Safari, Sweden, Monte, Corsica, Catalunya, Portugal, RAC, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia. Not the crap we have now, someone gets round then it disappears, there is no stability because they only care about money.

As for rallycross, IMG completely ripped that sport apart a few years ago and I struggle to think it can ever recover.

Evan’s picked up a puncture in the second to last stage.
It’s a st or bust moment. He has to beat Solberg in the power stage.
Fingers crossed.

Evans leads the majority of the season, and is stung by running first on the road on the endless dry, dusty gravel events.
Ogier missed events last year, and gained better road position in the final part of the season. This year, Solberg has crashed out of numerous events -which should be a disadvantage - but has enabled him to get a good road position to rack up big points.

Evans has suffered another puncture this morning after those in Chile - and that looks as though it's going to cost him. So near, yet so far - again.

Brilliant result for a lovely chap and co driver.
You could say Oliver had bad luck, but Elvyn has more than his fair share of bad luck over the years.
Oliver will be champion another day no doubt.

A wonderful result for a top bloke.
The headline on BBC Sport is Verstappen winning a GP.

It has been happening for years with some slight changes especially when Loeb and Ogier dominated the championship. It did not really stop them destroying every body though.

So many times the runner up he deserves this . Who knows but with a British champion , back on the BBC , and Ford back in WRC this could see a real upturn for the sport . Great news .

Over the moon for Elfyn. Always seemed that everyone was behind the other Toyota drivers for various reasons (media, fans, other drivers) and Elfyn just gets on with it.

Not his fault that the road order works against him more often than not, and to keep coming back after being so close is testament to his resilience.
