The above is a road near to me and the local council has installed AI cameras on one section and between March - July of this year it caught 4407 incidents of no seat belt being worn, 119 incidents of mobile phone use and 74 speeding offences clocked at over 80mph in the 60mph limit.

That is a lot of people not wearing a seatbelt!

Is it a rural thing? Knew many people in Somerset villages who thought nothing of ignoring seat belts or driving back from the pub well over the limit because of the lack of enforcement.

Not that I’m a saint. When I used to do that route regularly, the bypass was the first chance to blat past the dawdlers from Warminster/Longleat (albeit with a seat belt on and sober biggrin)

No indication that speed is responsible for any of the fatalities, never mind those obeying the 60 limit, but they'll reduce it to 50 anyway because they've been lobotomised.

That is a lot of non belters. Hard to believe tbh.

I could believe it with White van men/excuse for men though.

Definitely something not right: "more than 4,500 offences between March and July 2025 including 4,407 incidents of no seat belt being worn" unless the 'more than' means considerably more.

"Driver behaviour can often play a pivotal role in serious road incidents".

Well, surprise me sideways.

The other thing about the camera right now as well is they have imposed a 30mph limit around the junction, which I guess is helping push up the numbers as very few are keeping to that. Annoying really that they will use this to drop a perfectly fine 60mph to 50mph.

A lot of people think they are gangsta or something and refuse, a while ago I used to give someone a lift to work and they insisted on no belt. Even me emergency braking from 60 and them sliding off the seat into the glovebox and windscreen area wasnt enough to convince them.

My cars tend to bing and bong if the belts are not on - do these drivers wire out the alarm or are they driving such old cars they don't have this feature?

You refused to drive him, did you?

I guess they either click the belt in behind themself or have got an old seatbelt clip to click in to stop the bing bongs
