Has anyone else noticed that new LED street lamps even though brighter.

Do not seem to make road markings show up as well vs the older orange street lights?

To me they are greatly inferior to the old orange lights, except presumably in electricity consumption. The problem with bright white light is it exaggerates light and shade, whereas the orange lights were more diffuse and did not seem to create dark patches in the same way. I accept this may be the result of poor implementation of LED lights - I don't know.
Orange is more cosy too, but I will accept that is a low priority!

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. The old orange sodium lights gave more contrast with white and yellow paint. LEDs are whiter and seem to wash everything out, especially when the road is wet. Makes it harder to see lines.

Yeah it's a thing.

The contrast between light and shadows means it's harder to see anything unlit or that falls into shade.

Can't for the life of me find it, but I read something a few years back about nighttime safety for pedestrians being somewhat worsened in some conditions.
