Have always loved this area of the forum, done two Alps trips in the current Caterham thought I'd link them rom my readers rides

Only way to avoid the crowds I find! In July / August it's pretty much a write off from 9:30-18:00.

For quiet roads pretty much anytime try the Pyrenees, whilst not as visually jaw dropping as the Alps I find the roads far better from a driving aspect.
