I'll second Route Napoleon... I've only done the Southern bit of it (a few times), but it's great fun with some amazing views.
As for the Millau Bridge... If you really really want to be able to say "I've driven over the highest bridge in the world" then go for it. I wanted to, and for that alone it was worth my 2 day detour
.
As for driving pleasure - the 100s of miles of smooth empty motorways with views of the hills leading up to the bridge was nice, but not the most exciting! The bridge itself is only impressive when viewed from a distance. Once you're on it, it feels just like any road and it's near impossible to see over the side and gain a sense of how high up you are.
Drive from A to B anywhere through the French alps without first planning your route and you're guaranteed to have an adventure

Did Route Napoleon last year and agree it is a must do one! Superb scenery + fantastic view of Med as you drive down to Nice. Also D902 is a challenging road (St.Bernards Pass)Again breathtaking views but be prepared to put your hood up quickly as weather changes quickly as we found out last year! Enjoy!

www.alpineroads.com/ has it all.
Some of the best roads aren't between Calais and Monte Carlo.
I like the Gross Glockner Hoch Alpen Strasse a lot.
Snow and glaciers all year round.
Imagine the faces of the ferry staff as they
see your skis stacked on the car. In July.
Hmm! Nice road - fairly scenic with a reservoir/lake at the top, but certainly not to be classed as exciting.
To be fair, the whole of Tyrol is criss-crossed with nice roads, for example the Arlbergpass which again is scenic, but not in the exciting class.
As a suggestion, drive from Bludenz to Sankt Anton via the Arlbergpass, continue towards Landeck on the back road, and after Strengen, turn right to Ischgl and stop in this pretty ski resort for coffee. Continue over the Silvretta Pass towards Schruns and then Bludenz. At Bludenz, go North to Thuringen, then Blons, Fontanella, Damuls, Schoppernau, Hochtannbergpass to Warth and then the 5* Ski resort of Lech. After Lech, continue to Zurs and the Flexenpass back to Sankt Anton. A nice days drive in the Austrian Tyrol with fantastic scenery, nice roads, and plenty of good eateries!
Oh - and much nicer tarmac than zig zag hill!!!!

Yes, it's windy (being blonde, I thought you mean't gusty at first!!!) but a bit too thin in places, especially when the campervans launch themselves at you!
I even took to folding the mirrors in at one stage for fear they were going to be swiped off!
Yes, it is rather a nice way to spend the Summer months - 'researching'!

I've just been to the Millau bridge, and did the Tarn gorge. I'm glad I saw it, but the roads aren't a patch on the french alps. I wouldn't recommend detouring to see it, 'cos you'll lose at least one, poss two days of great driving roads.
I want to go and see the bridge really, have promised the littluns as well, so may as well make the most of the roads in that area whilst I'm detouring.
Have done a fair bit of the Alps on 2 previous trips......shan't be missing out too much as am stopping for 2 days by Lac Annecy as well
