Driving to Italy
Discussion
Hi
We've decided to drive to Italy for summer hols. Did it once before in 2002 for 2 weeks, went Calais -Reims- Lyons- Avignon-Nice-Genoa-Pisa-Rome-Naples, then back somewhere in the middle of Italy (can't honestly remember where, but only place on holiday that wasn't tremendous)- Maranello, of course - Venice- Turin - Frejus Tunnel - Dijon - Paris-home. Want to go a different way this time, but not Switzerland. Anybody got any advice? many thanks in advance. Also taking 3 weeks this time, so hopefully more time in the home of supercars, and relevant side trips (Sant 'agata? sp??) very welcome. 145 boxer has been fully fettled in anticipation of many miles, hope it likes going home!

Well, if you have been the French
route, and you don't want CH, try
the Eastern route:
Calais, Brussels, Aachen,
Koln, Frankfurt, Stuttgart,
Ulm, Fussen, Innsbruck,
Milano.
Or if you don't want to go
the wrong way on the first bit try
Calais, Brussels, Namur, Luxembourg,
Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, ...
There is a section of four lanes each
way that is no limits just south of
Frankfurt.
150 plus mph no problem. Plenty
of room.
Fraser, will be glad to oblige, any good news will be put on here as soon as I get back (or if it's really good, even while I'm there)! Also, DCH thanks for your advice, will take it on board, even if it does mean driving through Germany - no offence to Germans, but just doesn't sound like you're going for a southern European holiday if you're going through Deutchsland to get there!
been down to italy a few times. germany has my vote as the motorways are free (student budget see).
whichever way you go, be sure to ditch the motorway as soon as you hit the mountains. takes half a day extra but well worth it. just dont try it in a fully laden 106 in february - not my best driving idea.

Don't do Switzerland.
Go the Eastern route.
CH sucks.
