Off to France this summer and hope to have a look at the Millau bridge on the way - also look to be some good roads just to the west of there in the Cevennes National Park.
Anyone recommend any particularly outstanding roads down in just that area? Have heard the Col de la Serreyrede is worth a look?

Always fancied a bit of an explore in that region after "Car" mag did their "Drive of Your Life" article with the WRX, Z06, M3 and Clio V6 down there

Also, any recommendations on reasonable B&B places in that area

The Corniche des Cevennes is good - but don't go up there if it looks cloudy - you can't see a thing!!

The D995 from Le Massegros drops you into the Gorges du Tarn with a spectacular view. The Gorges du Tarn is not a great road, but very picturesque.

Cheers, I'll look it up and try and incorporate into my route. We've got a day around that area ( want to visit the Millau bridge as stated ) and that article/roads quite appealed

You're just whetting my appetite even more now!

In actual fact, looking at that website you've linked to my route
down to near Frejus looks remarkably like one of the Monaco Tours....without the luxury hotels

The Tarn Gorge, oh yes 80 or so miles of pure bliss, plenty of watering holes and even the chance of a bit of canoing, nowt strenuous just easy all the way. Millau is a nice village and some great food to be had. Go to the bar with all the sawdust on the floor, it's a great laugh with good music too. The restauraunt behind the bandstand is good too if you like a big steak.

There are hundreds of places to stay so don't make plans, just turn up and a day or so at Beziers on the Med is in order too.

Enjoy and post us a few pics when you get back

bon voyage

Will do on the pics front

Trying to book ahead as have a couple of small 'uns in the back - if it was just the wife and I, I'd just turn up and find somewhere

Not the cheapest, but by far the best in the area...located in the heart of the Gorges du Tarn.

If that's beyond your budget - I have another hidden gem!

Just noticed you have a couple of kids - the other Hotel we use has rooms with an extra bedroom for the children, and is very reasonable. It has a garage, a lovely pool next to the River Tarn and a gorgeous terrace. It is child friendly, and in a very relaxing location......

Sounds great - not sure I can afford the Chateau de la Caze though - I'm looking forward to the driving as much as the hols.
1st stop on the way down is my friend's house in Germany - taking his car to the Nurburgring for a toodle round

Seconded! St Enemie is the stuff you could only find on a postcard. Top spot, do it.

After that, the N88 West from Mende to Langogne is awesome. Then the N102 South to Aubenas if you like your switchbacks.

Back to France next Thursday, for a weeks fishing...doubt I'll get any further south than Tours as we're staying about 20 mins south west of Le Mans. looking forward to another blast down part of the Mulsane and a few runs out to La Fleche and Sable.

I'll also be on the lookout for Chateau Cooky, somewhere with a nice Carp lake cloud9

Diclaimer: *cough* I have been known to list roads as awesome, forgetting that I was doing 100mph+ on a motorbike on them - which makes most things awesome. But pretty sure the one Ive listed above are the good still. thumbup

- I'll bear it in mind but it's still possible to have a bit of fun when everyone has dozed off in the car

Anyway, any cheapish B&B suggestions for this area - i'd like to try and prebook somewhere if poss rather than just turn up on spec
