Going down to Beaulieu next weekend and I'm after some good roads in and around the New Forest, can't use the PH search at the moment so...

I've got a circuit together based on what I can see on Google maps which starts B3078 at Brook - then A338 to Ringwood then B3347 to Christchurch then B3055 to Brockenhurst then the A337 to lyndhurst and the B3056 into Beaulieu, would that be a good route or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Can't help with a route, but from what I recall, lots of limited speed limits around there, ie, 40.

You've got a load of 40mph limits on the roads to contend with, some justified and then a load that aren't, dur to the latter people tend to ignore most of them!

What are you after? A spirited drive? or some nice scenery?

For a nice run round, as your current route is loaded with local traffic and 40 limts anyway. Brook to Fordingbrige 3078, A338 towards Ringwood but turn off left before you get there - look for brown signs to Red Shoot and High Corner Inn, latter good for lunch if you don't mind a gravel track.

Follow that road out under the A31, bear right at Bolderwood down to the A35. Straight over through Rhinefield drive to Brockenhurst, pick up the B3055 to Beaulieu ( you'll need to head towards Lyndhurst and turn right at the Balmer Lawn Hotel ).

Enjoy, the Forest is great, love having to drive though it to get home everyday!

+1 Avoid the centre of Lyndhurst at all costs.
I would say this route needs a sat nav, the route off the Rhinfield road onto the A337 doesnt seem to be very well sign posted (like the rest of the Forest..) and its too easy to end up heading back off along Burley Road (not necessarily a bad thing though smile you could loop round and go back up the b3055)

This does miss out the b3056, which is pretty nice, and I would recommmend a lap of the this :

Quite slow in places, but some interesting roads..

The first few pics on this thread are taken in that area..

Its a blanket 40 limit, and you need to assume that around every blind corner and every blind peak there lurks a pony/deer/cyclist or tourist stopped on the road gawping at said pony/deer/cyclist. However there are some loooooong, straight, high visibility bits that it would be almost rude not to extend the right foot for..

Its terrible having to decide on the long route home, or the very long route biggrin

Just be a little careful between C & D as the road edges are a little broken and sharp in places. Only place you are likley to see speed enforcement is A-B and maybe H-I.

Watch out for the idiots that don't move out of the centre of the road .. where the road is really narrow.

They want you to do all the off road action.. tts.

Thanks very much for this - did the majority of this route last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. Really appreciate your taking the time to put it together and share it with the rest of us.
To prove it, here's a picture of my (embarrassingly dirty) car in one of the many parking spots in the new forest...
