Greetings fellow PH rs.

I’ve had this a few months and figured it was time to share some pics.

I’ve always loved the design of these, with the best looking iteration being the late model V6.

I picked it up remotely having the dealership just send me some videos and picture. I m in Orange County and the car was in Portland so getting up there was tricky.

Having said that, it was so mint that I was willing to take the risk and it was pretty cheap ($9k) so figured it was worth a punt. She s on 115k miles.

It s a 3.2 with an auto (manuals didn t come here). Which makes it a bit more of a cruiser but that 3.2 is oh so glorious. The sound, even in stock form is something to behold.

She arrived at my house on the back of a transporter which caused a scene in the neighborhood!

She was filthy from the transport and barely started, so we kicked off with a good clean.

Then after a quick shake down run and inspection it turns out she really was as mint as was claimed. Couple of stone chips that I couldn t see in the videos, but the dealer was honest and told me about them.

The interior is utterly mint and looks like it s done 30k.

Next job was a smog test and registration in California which was very straightforward.

Then frankly.. just enjoying it and hitting the car scene here in So Cal.

Next up is some new tires.. so I figured also a good time to get some new wheels as I don t like the OEM ones.

Tires and fitting some next week, then I think a very subtle drop on some lowering springs to finish the look.

Will keep the thread updated!

I love these and have flirted with these closely over the last 2 years or so given the good value they represent.
However, timing chain issues have put me off.

Think these are by far the better option over the turbo versions, they look cooler too.

That looks really good, and will look better with the new wheels!

I've always preferred an N/A 6 cylinder to a 4 cylinder turbo, not least for the soundtrack.

I reckon the 3.2 will be much more reliable than the turbo at this age too.

Personally I love the 3.2 TT wheels but that looks great. Seats look brand new - usually theyre a wrinkled, shiny mess in TTs

I remember driving one of these in period, and it amazed me at how quick you could get away from the traffic lights in it back then. Enjoy it. thumbup

Looks fantastic! Always liked the shape of these, when they were launched they were like nothing else at the time. Audi were really on top of their game at the time.

We had a black one (1.8 model) a few years ago, it was a bit small for me but the seats were really comfy and the interior really ages well.

Look forward to seeing any more pictures that you post! We don’t see many from across the pond so nice to see some different scenery and car culture! smile

Thanks! Yes, the condition of the interior and exterior was one of the reasons I went for this car without viewing it in person.

For obvious reasons here these suffer very badly from paint fade and interior cracking when left outside in the sun. This one (I presume) was stored inside.

It really is an amazing car culture here. I’ve lived here 10+ years (Brit originally) and it’s been a wonderful experience immersing in it. There are genuinely 80-100 different meets each week within the OC / Greater LA area.

Some more pictures from a couple of recent meets:

The new wheels made it on today.

Loving the look, but I think a small height drop is needed. Thoughts?

Love the wheels and car, but yes, it's way too high. Needs a few inches taking out of it.

Wheels look great but I'm not a fan of the red centre caps. Agree a small drop is needed!

Love the V6, those little vents on the front bumper but the wheels really get me!

Common complaint about the V6 aiui, the bottom of the sump has to be lower (compared to the 1.8) for the engine to fit so they raised the ride height to maintain the ground clearance.

I think these are great value as a kind of 'retro future classic', and the extra styling on the V6 makes a huge difference. Personally, I think the new wheels look great but would also agree that they'd work better with a subtle drop.

Side note, I echo the previous comments about enjoying a glimpse into a different car culture and scenery!

If you haven't already, get the chains checked! Along with the Haldex and the DSG box

I love mk1 TTs even if my time with one was, er, interesting.

Does need a tickle with the lowering stick to make the most of the new wheels.
