Standard one would be maxed out by the turbo he's running.

What do you mean "maxed out"...its running higher boost than the existing map can cope with? I thought the MAF sensor was just a sensor and it would be the ECU that would need changing?

(I'm trying to get my head round these things!)

That's why he has the Power FC etc to allow the increase in fuel over the Std mapping.

The stock MAF on the SR20DET can only read a given amount of air flow, once you go past that you need a MAF with a larger diameter that is designed to read higher airflow and hence higher horsepower.

I always wanted one but never took the plunge. Do you go searching for wet roundabouts?

With all those mod's i doubt he'd need a wet one... anyone will do!

The sensor has a maximum limit to how much airflow it can register. The Gt30 he is running, flows more air than the normal MAF can read, so the ECU would not be able to accurately get a good air/fuel mix. The 300zx one can register more, but the ECU would need remapping or chipped.

The Nissan ECUs are great on the 200sxs though, they can be remapped for different turbos, sensors etc etc.

Yep, they have resolutions similar to high end aftermarket stuff, and can even run multiple maps so I'm told.
