Evening, thought I would detail my journey with a F-Pace SVR, as not too much about them.

Summary:

Its a 2024 model year (started in September 2023), so a few changes in spec from older facelift vehicles, but this one is not a 575, only a lowly 550ps!

So far been on a few adventures, been on a few family trips, and went over to Germany where had a tour of AMG manufacturing plant, followed by driving a few AMG's through the German countryside on a AMG Experience.

Didn't expect to cover so much mileage - over 5k in 6 months. This will die down now, and could of done without high petrol prices.

Why a SVR?

Test drove a few cars, tried the merc e class E53 amg, I liked it, but I have always wanted a v8 - blame my wife for that as we always get a v8 in america when we go.

Drove a SQ8 - while I thought it was a good car, it didn't have what I wanted - probably better built than the Jag, but it didn't have enough v8 noise for me.

Drove a BMW M550i and again, very nice car, but I just didn't quite gel with it, again the noise was ok, but wasn't really what I was after, and after trying the F Pace SVR 2 days beforehand, I just knew.

Tried to get a test drive of a GLC63 AMG - but I got tired of waiting for the dealer to get back to me, then it needed servicing, then it wasn't prepped etc, so I didn't bother (drive C63 with the same engine before)

Also test drove a E63 - this was on a 68 plate - I did really like it, but waited too long and someone else snapped it up.

Few likes and dislikes, so the likes first - my golf r was actually louder (and was standard) being the estate it doesn't have the flaps like the hatchback so is always in loud mode, but the V8 noise is totally different, and the supercharger whine still makes me giggle like a schoolboy. It doesn't half shift, and actually in my driving so far, it out handles the golf. First time I have had heads up display - love it. Did I mention the noise?

Dislikes, the sunroof won't close with one push of the button when ignition off - you have to hold it, first world problems. Have a few creaks, and the active noise cancelling is giving me high pitched noises occasionally (its not me giggling like a school boy). Annoying it always starts in comfort - as I'm paying through the nose for fuel I want to hear it burn!

So come to trade in day, buy to the Golf R I had since new - and into the Jag.

Purchase mileage

First trip (back home from dealer) - took it gentle getting use to the car.

Some interior shots - wasn't sure at first - but actually enjoying the lighter interior

After first sort of wash:

Some trips - went to France with the family - this is our trip MPG covering mainly motorway - didn't hang about in france, sat at 80. 700 miles covered back in April 26

Nice trip to Germany - this was in June:

Mainly around town its closer to 14 mpg - the car does lie, or shall I say its over optimistic in the amount of fuel its burning.

My long term average according to my app is 22.972 mpg.

So far my best trip was up to Alton Towers, this was nearer to around 34 mpg than the 36 it states.

Got service coming up in september along with MOT - Jag prices have gone up - maybe to plug the loss of profit.

Before I went on holiday online was showing about £585, got back from holiday its now £717 - same service etc.

Note to self - make sure you book service next year in July rather than August.

Car has Jag 2 year warranty - hence the service with them - just easier and its about 10 miles from me, so not too bad dropping off etc.

That is a damn rude service price increase.

Lovely car, how do you find the seats and their adjustment? And was the 25bhp loss on facelift a GPF thing? Although it seems late for that...

Congrats OP - I’ve always had a thing for the F Pace SVR. It’s probably the only SUV I’d consider now and once day I’ll scratch the itch.

Find the seats very comfortable, I went for the full leather as it's a bit softer (well I found it a bit softer).

The original was 543 bhp, this one is 543bhp also but has the gearbox from project 8 which makes it a bit quicker. Newer ones 24 plate onwards are 575ps (567 bhp ISH).

From 21 plate onwards has the gpf

This one is a bit quieter than the prefacelift.

Tbh I hadn't really considered them previously, but after reading about this being a nice V8 engine etc, decided now was the time before V8 become extinct.

Only I could buy a V8 and petrol prices rise considerably.

Roughly a 10 mpg difference between this and the golf R I had previously.

I'm glad you like the noise.
I was responsible for the cold end (cat back) exhaust system many years ago from the manufacturing side.

Its still my favourite tail trim to date. Each individual trim is made from a single piece of metal that goes through many processes to get to the finished article. Normally that type of trim would be welded, but OEMs don't like that. The sub supplier, would never let us (or JLR) view the process to protect the IP. Its quite unusual that this arrangement works as the OEMS like to know everything, but if you want the trim bad enough...

I think the SVRs are a lot of car for the money, and hopefully that engine is relatively reliable compared to some of their own diesel efforts!

If we ever meet - i will shake your hand and say well done.

I am hoping so too - especially based on current depreciation. I guess with petrol around 162.9 - isn't a massive demand for 5.0 supercharged v8's.

Only I could buy a v8 and petrol prices shoot up!

As I sit here tonight thinking about all the items I would like checked at the service - thought it might be a good chance to have some positives and negatives, plus a little review so far of how it has been.

I started my hunt when a nice blue F pace SVR caught my eye - this was a pre facelift version (so no pivi pro - weird opening anfd closing window switches very high up which you don't expect them to be there.

I had been thinking about changing my car for a while - mainly if I'm honest - to scratch the V8 itch I have had ever since I first went to america, but also since seeing a lovely 11 plate ISF back in 2013 which I should of bought - it was up for 24,995 and would to this day command probably more than that - nice blue colour with the white leather seats (theme going on here).

After having a golf r for a long time - with the lovely dsg fart noise everybody loves - and seeing my daughter face giggle when the F Pace SVR was started for us - in my head - I had to make the maths work to have a V8 in my life.

Had a test drive - and decided there and then after some of the other test drives I had - this car was special - felt more special than quite a few of the others - wasn't the fastest, wasnt the most comfortable, wasn't the most spacious etc - but sometimes you drive a car - and you just say yes - I have found what I want - it was that moment.

Ironically - it was a 19 plate - it went down in price for two weeks, and then someone else snapped it up - my daughter was gutted - and still to this day mentions it just to annoy me - but it wasn't the car for me - I was way to indescisive - and for ages was sitting on the fence - was I comfortable spending this type of money on a car - the golf is fine does everything I need, paid for etc. So that cost me the first SVR.

Then a facelift one came up for sale - it was blue again - but done double the mileage of the original one, but it was a couple of grand more and I got the new dash - so a win win situation - test drove it - was fine - paid deposit, signed finance.

Then that night a neighbour had some friendly people who wanted to take his Jag for a spin - waving the antenna etc trying to get a signal - they had no luck - but this straight away set my wife on edge - a bright blue f pace svr doesn't blend in in a sea of black, white and grey cars.

My wife started to worry a bit - and for obvious reasons - wasn't too keen on having the car - so I pulled out - and agreed that I would not look for a blue one, and beefed up security at home a bit while we were at it.

Next up a grey one came up for sale - met the requirements - but when I went to look at it - I just wasn't sure - its a nice grey - but not really a grey fan - didn't love it - spec was ok - but nothing special.

The hunt continued - until December last year - when quite a few were coming on the market. Along with the one I purchased. I think I rushed this purchase - should of done a bit more homework.

Drove up after having the videos sent etc - and pretty much decided there and then that yes would have this one. I did um and ahh a bit over the beige seats that I wasn't really sure about - but as soon as I sat in the leather seats I knew these were the seats I had to have. All the others had the part leather part suede.

It fitted the bill - being white - blend in a bit - and the rest as they say is history.

Good points about the car now I have had it 6 months:

I think the pivi pro is really good - I wish it had the pictures of the radio stations like what I had in the golf - but other than that its a really good system - I like that I can check fuel prices etc (although my subscription is about to expire - £190 for 2 years for pivi pro.
The seats are really good - look sporty but are very comfortable - love that they are heated and cooled (like the tahoe etc we have had in america previously)
The engine is a obvious highlight - I can't believe its as old as people say they are - but after having turbocharged engines - I'm really enjoying the supercharged engine. Love the whine of the supercharger too.
First time I have had a Z8 gearbox, which again seems really good
Ride is good considering the wheels and obvious suspension set up
Handling I find better than my golf r despite being a heavier and higher up car.

Negatives
Build quality is a bit iffy - I do have some rattles - plastic against plastic under the windscreen - but this does happen in a lot of cars these days - crap roads I guess
Rear legroom - its better than the golf R I had - but for the size of car it could probably be better
Doors seem very hollow - which seems common complaint - might need some sound deadening put in.
The noise on concrete sections of the motorway is horrible - its a common complaint again - partly due to the size of the tyres.

So far - I have them to look at the following:
The noise cancelling doesn't seem to be working too well - I get a high pitched squeal noise occasionally
A occasional grind noise from the rear of the car (possible wheel bearing?)

Overall so far been a positive experience - lets not talk too much about fuel - servicing costs - will see how that goes and if any of my issues get resolved.

Lovely car!

I had a facelift 71 plate in Ultra Blue that I ordered from new as a reward for working flat out through Covid!

I’ve posted a few times on here before that it became a target for the thieving scum who turned up at my house multiple times with machetes and baseball bats. Couldn’t do anything other than sell it.

I’ve since had a V12 DB11 and a 992 GTS and I’d go so far as to say that the SVR was the best of the bunch. Just a perfect blend of noise, power, comfort, noise, feel-good factor, acceptable handling and noise. The interior - in Oyster like yours - was lovely and the tech was about as modern as you’d want. A wonderful machine that made the Porsche that followed it look unbelievably dull.

I pinned the exhaust valves open and it sounded epic!

I must admit - I read your thread many times - and it was helpful in my decision - so should thank you for that.

The jag is actually quieter than my golf - that was the first thing the missus said - hated the golf for the noise but it was all standard - cat always knew I was coming home and would appear - hasn't got use to the jag yet - I don't really like that it starts in comfort mode all the time - I have to hit that exhaust button everytime as soon as I get in.

I may try the open the flaps continually fuse trick - see how it goes. For the size of car it handles really well..

Fully understand the need to sell - this will go too if I have the same thing. Its a car at the end of the day.

What is the UK coming to when someone has to sell their nice Jag for their own safety?

I suppose it's a good thing but were they not interested in the DB11 or 992 GTS? Or are they only interested in SUVs so they can get their scummy mates in it.

Lovely cars though, there's a black one local to me and it sounds epic.

Well the whole ‘what’s the UK coming to’ is a topic for NPE; it’s in terminal decline, that’s for sure.

I think 911s tend to lose their headlights to the scum, but the cars themselves don’t go walkies. Astons…..not heard about much in the way of thefts, I’m sure they happen but they’re pretty rare. I did build a garage after the incident, though.

I think, like you say, SUVs and performance German stuff is their target. It was right at the peak of the thefts where Range Rovers were totally uninsurable in certain postcodes and on the SVR Facebook group it was fairly common to see a post about someone’s pride and joy being stolen. I live rurally and off a small lane and they still spotted it, but we’re unfortunately close enough to Bradford and some pretty stty areas that they just manage to find you.

It’s a shame because I do now have to choose my cars based entirely on whether they’re targets for scum. I can’t, for instance, even consider having something like an M2.

Yeah definitely in decline. Such a shame that you have to be careful what you buy. Don't want to derail the thread though.

Love the SVR OP enjoy and make the most of the V8 before they are banned wink
