My LS7 powered Monaro VXR
Discussion
Hi.
I bought my Monaro around 6 months ago and believe it to be one of the monkfish converted LS7 cars.
Over the past few months I've spent a lot of time and money sorting issues and tidying it up as it would appear to have been neglected over the past few years.
Stuff I've done so far,
Rear ap calipers rebuilt and re painted.
Wortec cutout valves replaced and re wired the cutout controller which was being run off the fuel pump and causing issues.
Pedders coilovers stipped down cleaned and rebuilt.
Rear coilover springs replaced.
New gearbox mount.
Front and rear arb drop links replaced
Rear tie rods replaced .
Leaking oil cooler pipework replaced.
Weird random electrical problems sorted which turned out to be crusty engine bay earth points.
Passengers side knock sensor harness replaced as it had been touching the headers.
All fluids drained and replaced, annoyingly the diff and gearbox had only half the correct amount of fluid.
Split radiator hose replaced that had been bodged and was still weeping.
New set of genuine GM headlights
Various other cosmetic bits like trim bits, light fittings and omega door handles.
Other than a stack of receipts from monkfish for lots of work, the purchase of the ls7 crate engine and fitting it. With monkfish now closed I haven't got much information on it and can't find anything other than the odd post here and there about there being maybe one or 2 conversions done.
So just wondering if anyone has any more information on it, thanks.

Hi.
And welcome to the Monaro fold!
I have an LS7 clutch in my Monaro, not quite the same though
I'd love to have mine fitted with an LS7, probably more so than a supercharger.
From what I understand, its a fairly straight forward process, pretty much a straight fit, some modifications to the loom and a remap so the ecu knows what it's working with and Bob's your uncle.
Nice work on sorting out the niggles and neglect, these cars are pretty special IMO.
How does it drive and feel with that lump? Have you driven a standard 6.0 litre to feel a comparison?
Pictures please!

Once the 14 day period is over I'll post some pictures, I'd post the link to my thread on Just commodores but it won't let me.
From what I can see and have read, for the conversion it needed,
Wet sump conversion as the ls7 uses a dry sump system.
The ls7 uses a 58 tooth trigger compared to the 24 tooth the ls2 uses so uses a Lingenfelter TRG-002 LSX Engine 58X To 24X Trigger Wheel Conversion Control Module Kit.
A few sensors are in different places so wiring looms needed to be extended.
As for how it drives, its ok you can tell it's not been driven much over the last few years but I'm using it as much as I can and it's come around after doing around 1000 miles and I'm starting to push it further now. The paperwork lists a camshaft "magic 4" was fitted when the ls7 conversion was done and I've got a Dyno print out at 601bhp at the flywheel and 543bhp at the wheels, and feels like a different animal compared to the standard 6.0 vxr.
There's still a fair bit do be done, the rear subframe bushes are pretty shot and the driveshaft centre bearing is on its last legs so waiting for a nice dry weekend to do them. The wheels need refurbishing as the powder coating wasn't the best and is flaking, steering wheel could do with re trimming and a few other niggling bits.

Ah yes, I forget about the trigger wheel. In my fantasy world, I'd have a built LS454 (based on the LS7 I believe) and have a 24X trigger wheel fitted to remove the need for the Lingenfelter box.
That's a very decent power output from the engine, love that the fact it is produced without the aid of FI, simple reliable power from a simple reliable large displacement engine.
Are you thinking the car is a keeping then?

Nice. Mine has a supercharged LSA with interchiller. Monkfish built it from a bare block and fitted a 24x reluctor wheel. Best thing you could do is get a Luis Sola tune. The man is a legend and it’ll drive so much nicer. Wortec tunes were always a bit basic. Speak to Carl Herkes at LS performance parts.
