Yup awesome car indeed. yes

The guy has 5 RS500 Touring cars I believe including Listerine and Labbats cars. He posts on Passion Ford quite a bit. Very lucky man indeed.

500 refers to the number that were made for homologation purposes.

but I seem to remember Tiff Needell driving one and it had 500 hp in race trim.

All of his cars are in perfect condition. The Texaco one has well over 500 bhp, it sounds glorious. All the race cars have different power outputs due to the different ways they were developed. If I had the money I would be buying it!

He also has a rather nice 190 DTM car which he will be racing this season.

Sorry mate - thought you were putting 2+2 together to make 500

[Geek mode]

Typically, RS500's will have around 540bhp - that is using an 8 injector set up on the YBP engine, with grey injectors and a big feck off turbo (not a technical term). More than that is possible but that's only in recent years they have got 550+ and that's typically with NOS once at 600bhp.

******* fast is a technical term.

The rallycross boys are running loads more than that Tony, although their engines are generally like a hand grenade with the pin removed! And nitrous is cheating!

Is that only very recently though (read past 2 - 3 yrs) ? For many years 550bhp was the quick vs longevity balance until (I think it was Raynard) got 600bhp, but that was mega money. NOS has taken it a step further though.

(I say this as someone who has been out of the RS scene for a few years now)

Good discussion thumbup

I think Rouse managed to get 570 bhp, the Eggenberger cars didn't have quite as much as they were tuned for endurance events. Does anyone remember the Soper / Rouse duel around the Brands GP Circuit in about 87. Excellent race, Rouse had a power advantage, but Soper had a better chassis. So they had the advantage at different parts of the circuit.

The Bristow Thundersaloon had over 600 back in 91/92. It has recently been de-tuned and will be seen out again this season. Raynards’s original engine is being rebuilt and is being fitted to another Escort.

The higher powered ones don't last long, most of the YBs I've seen out circuit racing recently are still around the 550 mark for exactly the reason you talk about above. NOS can't be used, but I guess people may use it on road/track setups?

Can't remember that race (was still rather young then!) but from what I've seen of both the drivers I can imagine what it was like!
