Subaru Impreza 93 and 99 are they same...?

Please let me know the subaru impreza 93 and 99-2000 model engines are the same..

as i need to buy the engine and the chap is saying its same..

Which Impreza do you have?

If you are thinking of putting a 93 engine into a 99 there will be many along to give you technical reasons why not to.

However if the swap is the other way round then there are a fair few classics with 2.5 sti engines floating around on PH and i'm sure there are some of them who will be able to assist.

Same basic design, and the mounts will probably be very similar, but I would imagine the later engine will be heavily revised.

The chap told me 93 impreza has coil pack on the cylinder head and the 99 impreza has coil packs on the manifold.

But if you are replacing the whole engine it doesnt matter. All that matters is if it will line up to the mounts and exhaust

Will the new engine come with the ECU as well? I doubt the two are interchangeable if not. You may also run into problems with integrating the new ECU with all the other electrickery.

If I were you I'd re post this in either the Jap car section of general gassing as you're more likely to get an accurate answer.

what about the power and compression..

if 99 will be higher brake horse power it will damage my turbo and other stuff...

or might be it blown up again..

So its just the block you are replacing then? Not the whole engine?

If thats the case just get one from teh same year

There were engine revisions through its life and obviously the difference between UK and WRX and STI lumps too. I would talk to a pro.

If you are replacing the short engine (block only) then the 2 are interchangable. The internals may be of different specifcations however the 99 will be of the same or better quality if it was sourced from an STI model.

If you intend to replace the long engine (block plus heads) then it becomes much more complicated. The exhaust manifold will bolt on but the inlet will not. Even if your replacement engine comes with the phase 2 inlet nothing else will fit from yor car (turbo, intercooler, loom etc).
