Hello All,

Decided I should finally join Pistonheads after reading the forums for years. I guess my forum name is a bit of a giveaway but here's my 2 motor's:

For everyday a facelifted 2004 3.2 166:

And for the weekends a 1991 ES30 SZ

Look forward to talking to you all

Cheers!

Philip

First one, quite nice.

Second one - Lovely!

Your SZ is just delicious. What does the average person with no interest in cars make of it? I've often wondered what kind of reaction, er, unusual looking cars like that get.

Cough, choke! A face lift 166 3.2 TI being described as "quite nice"? A bit like describing a 250 GTO SWB as "OK"!

If you like 166's of course!

What a cracking pair (!)

Are 3.2 166 Ti's still fetching stupid money? About 12 months ago a bunch of people on AO were desperate for them, but said that they were selling the instant they came up for sale. One guy said he'd been looking for 6 months.

And I too wonder about the reaction an SZ gets...I suspect most uneducated/non-car people would call it "ugly".

TI's still going for daft money - both the 3.2's and twinnies. People seem willing to pay though, so fair enough!

Excellent car choice OP!

Thanks for the welcome everyone. To answer some of the questions:

-sorry wasn't me at Castle Coombe. I think there are around 75 SZ's in the UK so not that rare, but some of them just never seem to come out of the garage...

-the SZ does get a fair bit of attention, though not always good! Schoolboys love it, non car people think it's an ugly kit car and some car people don't always get it either - but then I guess that's half the appeal.

Now for a confession - the 166 isn't actually a Ti.. It's merely a Lusso with Ti wheels, oh the shame wink. I still love it though and with the recently fitted Q2 LSD it actually goes round corners now too!

SZ (and RZ) one of my favourite all time cars - and its true, they really do divide opinion.

Its Surprising how many people who claim to be a car enthusiast dont know what they are.

Glad to see your getting used properly too, not a garage queen. I'm guessing their still rather expensive, if you can find one for sale...?

how does the sz drive/handle?

it is a marmite car but the proof is in the pudding. personally i don't like the looks, though it doesn't seem dated yet. the soft top is ugly as sin though, especially that rear end.

you can see why people give it a kit car moniker though:
