I don't understand why VW didn't do a GTD style model in the MK5. The GT Sport looked like any other bog standard Golf from every angle but the front & I'd guess there's quite a few people who want something that looks decent but don't want to frequent the petrol station every couple of days.
I can fully see why people go down the GTI/R32 bumper route, however badging it as GTI when it's not really isn't my thing.

What are you on? The Mk5 TDI sport is a million miles away from a 316i with Mtech bits on it as it is far from the bottom of the range golf. A TDI Sport is the replacement for the GT TDI and sportline models from 2004era, strange badging policy at VW GB which allowed them to put GT badges on some sports and not on others. In Europe all TDI sports were GT. The UK spec TDI sport comes with similar spec to a petrol GTI. Compared to low end diesels it has GTI bumpers, black grill sections, 17 or 18inch alloys, digital air con, MFA, fog lights + different headlights ,sport suspension, sports seats.

Yes, but it's not a GTi (this one appears to have an entire GTi front end, rather than the GT front bumper), nor is it an R32 (rear). It's not a GTi, or an R32, but my point was that I've seen several with the same kit approach locally, and wondered if they left the factory like that. I was using the M-tech 316 as an example, but an M-tech kitted 325i would come under the same league, as it's pretending to be something its not (especially if it's M3 badged).
