It is a bit of a loonatic of a hatch tbh, always loved my hot hatches having had a mazda3 mps and a nuvola white 147 gta in the last 18 months. Sold my last hatch for a e46 M3 cab and it just didnt do it for me so i decided i wanted another hatch and the more exclusive the better.
Main reason i went for the clio is that it is extremely exclusive and raw (no TC, SWB and rear heavy) with only 236 ph1's sold in uk (a good chunk of them written off now) and that the price of them has bottomed out now i think it should easily hold its money and at the same time give me plenty of fun. Also bought a meg 225 lux for the missus and dog ;o)

The car is lovely, but (you know what im going to say) the plate looks awful. If it doesnt say v6 why try and make it look like it?

It's also illegal - it should read exactly the same as on your registration document; R5[space]CVG.

Why do you guys get so wound up about a guys number plate, what is the big deal for goodness sake. Do we as car lovers not have enough things to worry about? Do us all a favour and go and find something important to moan about rolleyes

Come off it, I only give a st as its a shame to put a tacky plate on a bloody lovely car. If the owner couldn't deal with the odd critical comment he wouldn't have posted up pictures.

Knew the number plate would cause comments, fair enough, but i like it as dont see it as tacky.
Tacky to me more over the top aftermarket parts which do have more of a visual impact that a few letters 40mm out of place to what the DVLA say they should be.
Its a part of the car thats really pretty much irrelevant to the car as a whole it doesnt affect anything and can be changed in seconds.

  • goes to get burberry cap and heads to halfords for some chrome wiper bladers and a cossie spoiler*
seriously all comments are welcome

thanks

Congrats.... awesome car!

Keep telling myself I'm gonna own one of these some day, but personally think I'll go for the (supposedly) "saner" facelift version.

Did u test drive the facelift version out of interest?

Would be interesting to hear how the two compare from the perspective of an owner rather than a magzine hack.

thanks, I didnt test drive the PH2 as i wanted the original raw loonatic version tbh. Even though i do prefer the looks of the PH2. Aseemingly if you fit a PH2 subframe (which can be done easily) it basically converts the ph1 to ph2 as far as handling is concerned.
I havent yet learnt how to drive mine yet as not had chance but hopefully will be taking it to a trackday or two in the next 6 months to see how it performs.

Nice car, ignore the internet warrior freaks going on about the number plate. It clearly says 6 and looks good, not atall tacky with silly stickers or neon lights.

Sadly I agree, genuinely love the car. The colour and wheels etc look great and I'm sure it's a fking riot to drive but the number plater looks tacky, illegal and pointless; you can barely even tell what it's supposed to read. Why bother?

lol, i know its as if i dont know. Was more interested in comments negative and positive.

I also know its illegal so is doing 80 on the motorway and of course no one will do that.... and as you state "it doesnt even look like V6" I'm pleased i didnt put the screw right in the middle of the gap that would have caused uproar.

Love the car, must be a hoot to drive and bet you can't wait to take it to a track thumbup

R.e. the plate: As someone who butchered his own plate for a while before being fined (X6XX X rather than X6 XXX - no screws), the main thing I don't like about yours is the G to a 6. When I was pulled for my plate, the officer's main point (apart from ANPR not being able to read it, which I doubt), was that if it was involved in an accident and drove off, the reported plate of RSC V6 would be nowhere near what it actually is and therefore you would be untraceable. Although unlikely, I just think it looks tacky on such a nice car and is a bit too try-hard!

I'd agree with that, I think the time has come and gone for plates like that. The Victor Meldrews on here really piss on my chips though so fair play to the OP.

Looks really nice, I like phase 1 V6's better than phase 2. I test drove a V6 before I bought my 182 but insurance was abit pricey and I wasn't overly impressed with the handling for a hot hatch.

The stance these have on the road is awesome though!
