Well after taking the decision to pull my trackday M3 off the road for good, saving me £500 insurance, £205 tax and £xxx for the MOT, I needed something to drag it to Oulton Park with.

After looking at Rangeys (girlfriends choice) we settled on an X5. I spotted this on Autotrader one day, and although it looked a bit too 'pimp' for me, the spec read well... black, grey leather, climate, nav, tv, phone, M3 steering-wheel, detachable tow-bar, self-levelling rear suspenders, 19's, steps, etc. It turned out to be so good that I bought it on the spot for less than £10k.

Here's the dealers shots...

And I actually love the thing! After years of having pretty demanding cars in terms of performance, concentration, etc, this is a breath of fresh air - you just point and shoot! And if you need to get a move on, the old girl just lifts up her skirt and legs it!

Initial plan was to get the wheels re-done silver and the tints removed, but they're actually growing on me... paperbag

Only problem so far is 'sticky' steering due to the lower UJ on the steering column which I think the dealer will be sorting.

I'm yet to tow with it, but I reckon my 'rig' will look pretty cool with this as part of it...

Though it's currently looking rather sorry for itself caked in dust with the interior removed.

Think he plans on using it on the road, if he keeps them his car won't be road legal and can't use it on the road, he has remove them really.

Dirty boy TBiscuit!

Yeah, wasn't too sure on the legality of the tints - they look darker in those shots.

How can I get them checked short of getting stopped by the plod?

Dosen't look 'pimp' at all - I'd keep the as they are wheels too. Look smart.

I'd go with your first thoughts, remove the front tints, maybe redo the backs not quite as dark. Refurb the wheels in silver.

Will be a nice rig with the X5 and M3 together. Should get the M3 wheels coated in Graphite to match the X5!

Are those wheels definitely 19s? They look a lot smaller.

Nice purchase anyway - I still miss the X5's that we had - one of the best cars we owned and a lot better than the ML's of the same vintage. Very tempted at the moment by the end of line 3.0d's that are fully loaded but a Black or LeMans Blue 4.8is on LPG would be perfect smile

Looks nice smile but....

Am I the only one wondering why you've spent just short of £10k to save yourself about £1k/year running the M3? hehe

The X5 is cool but that E36 is in a league of its own! Looks awesome!

Keep the tints.

I'd guess that's a greenhouse in the summer.

I think it may be a good idea to remove the front tints before a nice Policeman tells you to.

Haha! Plan was always to have the M3 off the road — it's a bit too low/harsh/etc and I feel a bit of a tit with that rear spoiler on it. Plus this doesn't exactly make nipping to the shops easy...

Looking forward to stripping all of that heavy trim out!

Lovely spec and it's in great nick but although I can see the appeal of the wheels and if you lived in LA and listened to Jay Z a lot then I'd say keep 'em. As it is however I'd ditch them and the tints as they make you look like a drug dealer.
