Renault Clio 182

It has been a while since I bought my car so I thought it was about time I did a thread about it. I have done about 1500 miles in it since buying it.

Firstly the previous cars I’ve owned include:

Fiesta 1.1 – Black


Clio 1.2 Phase 2 – Black


Clio 1.2 Phase 3 – Grey


Golf Mk1 Convertible – Black


Clio 1.2 Phase 2 – Green
I can’t find any photos of this one will have a look on my work PC tomorrow for one.

106 GTI – Diablo Red


Audi B5 S4 – Nogaro Blue


Now I have a Clio 182. I bought the car from salvage as a Cat D with fairly minimal damage, just wing, bonnet, front bumper and headlights. First pictures show it being picked up, then a couple of progress pictures and the ‘complete’ article (I say completed but it’s not painted yet so the colour doesn’t quite match as the parts are off a 172 which has a different paint code to the 182)

Fitted 4 T1R’s as well as all the tyres were pretty low.

Recently taken delivery of carbon fibre exhaust trims (as these were missing and at £50 for a pair are cheaper than Renault who want £30 + VAT for one!!!)

Recently bought a length of Alcantara and planning to re-trim the roof lining eventually and a few other bits a bobs.

























You can just about see this lip bent in the previous two photos... that was the only real damage other than bolt on parts.









Here it is finished (so to speak) the bonnet and front bumper are a slightly different colour until I get them painted or find them in colour. (This is at a mates house BriC175 on here search for him if you want to know more about the Renault 5 or BMW as they are his, he's got a thread about them.)

Cheers, Yeah made a reasonable saving, and when picking up parts for it I bought other bits I didn't need and sold them for more than I paid which kept costs down.

As to what it cost over all, well its not yet finished as its not painted and that could add another 300-500 onto the price and its also due the cambelt as I don't have much service history so don't know if its been done in the past (one pitfall of accident damaged cars) Therefore any price I gave wouldn't be a true reflection at the moment.

Just as a side note: The other 3 clios I've owned were all accident damaged and I repaired them too.

Really interested in these, especially love the trophy. Insurance is my biggest issue at the moment though.

Yea didn't have the Golf that long, fitted a new clutch in it though. It wasn't quick enough for me. Cracking fun though. I did lower it alot at one point but that was a bit silly. Wish I hadn't really.

The S4 was by far the best but cost me far to much (It had the well known pre facelift manifold rattle and I had to fit two new turbos at a cost of £2000)
I also wanted to do a few track days and I didn't really see it as affordable with the S4 hence the 'downgrade' to the 182. Brakes, tyres, etc. are alot more on an S4 than a little Clio.

I will more than likely get an S4 again when I'm older - probably a K04'd one. The power for the price was unbelievable! No idea how I managed to get insurance on it either!

Pikey? It's a hidden part which is completely irrelevant to the rigidity / strength of the car! Would you be replacing the panel altogether? OK - but you'd see absolutely no benefit, except for the weight saving of your wallet.

It wasn't left like that I painted it black with a number of coats and then lacquer, as BriC states it's not there for any reason other than to support the weight of the front bumper which as it is does the job fine!

Awesome, nice job! I always see cars like that listed up and get tempted....then I come to my senses

Tempted by an upgrade to a Clio 182 (or one of the newer equivalents, depending how far away the upgrade is!) as my next car, but get put off by the whole Renault reliability scare-mongering....not helped by having a mk1 Clio that was a shed (to be expected) and dads Renault Safrane probably being the most unreliable car in history.

Funny that you mention reliability on Renaults, the most reliable cars I've had were the Clios and the 106 (both French and typically we all 'know' French cars are unreliable).

The Golf needed a clutch and the Audi was nothing but a money pit. I can't fault Renault at all for relability from my personal experiences!

Funny that you mention reliability on Renaults, the most reliable cars I've had were the Clios and the 106 (both French and typically we all 'know' French cars are unreliable).

Admitedly I remember the parents having a Renault 25, that was probably the most reliable car our familys had! Still going to this day apparently, despite being stolen and rolled down a hill into a ditch. I suppose mainly its luck as well...hows the Clio 182 been so far? I hear their engines are solid, which is encouraging, but unsure how the rest of the car will stand up? I've also heard that VAG cars can be overrated in terms of reliability, and should things go wrong they'll be expensive.

Yeah, I mean I've heard people mention that the gearboxs are weak, exhausts only last 50k etc. (I think the exhaust ones pretty spot on though) It is an excuse to upgrade to a stainless one though!

If anything does go wrong parts are reasonably cheap, can be found second hand off ebay and from breakers yards. I can't wait to get it on track now to be honest! Just trying to get hold of a spare set of wheels for it.

Cost £140, got it through the post, he usually then gives £25 for your old one, but sold it on eBay for more

It is such as good job, you can have it done it whatever colour or leather you want, I went for black and silver stitching. Nice S4 btw
