MX5 mk2 1.8

I had looking for a decent drivers car for a while, wanted something reasonably fast, nice to drive in the bends, reasonably cheap to run, reliable, and most of all fun. Had a few cars in mind but one that seemed to fit the bill nicely was an MX5. I didnt set out to become part of the PH bandwagon, but once I test drove one, I was hooked. As this was to be my daily driver I reasoned a mk2 MX5 would be more comfortable, fresher and reliable than a mk1, albeit perhaps less of a pure drivers car.

I saw this 1.8 Euphonic and fell in love with it. Part Ex'd my MG ZR (which had seen better days long before I had it) and put a reserve down.

Had it about a week now, here are some pictures after a quick clean today.

Havent got many plans for it other than a proper polishing session, been looking at a black grill for the hole in the front to protect the radiator but Im not sure on the designs. Stainless steel exhaust once this one goes will be next, will also look into clear indicators and perhaps a K&N panel filter

Nice car mate, liking the wheels, but the arch gap seems a bit on the big side, other than that i also like the colour.

Quick update chaps. K&N panel filter fitted to the car now, car feels slightly more responsive at lower revs, which is nice when I am commuting around town.

Ive had the chance to give the car a little hoon and it really does like to be driven quite hard. Steering is nice with plenty of feedback, with neutral handling. Despite having hard wearing tyres on the back I havent had the back out even slightly, a testament to the grip and Torsen diff - or my reluctance to push it too hard! Love the direct feel of the gearbox as well.

Still waiting for a sunny day when I am off work to give it the clean of its life

Ive now had the Wheels in Motion fast road set up applied at Nigel Langs garage in Bolton. What a difference it has made to the car - the steering feels much 'tighter' and the car feels grippier in general, its like driving a new car. I was given a before and after printout and 75% of the measurements were in the red beforehand. I would seriously consider going for a geometry session if you have an MX5 if you want the best from the car. The only issue I have with the car now is to get rid of the 'Hero' ditchfinder tyres and fit a nice new set of balanced boots.

Also I put some white side reflectors on and still log onto mx5parts weekly to have a nose at more bits!! Hopefully will have more pictures up this weekend after a good wash with a few questions I would like to ask!
