Thanks for the write-up. Very tempted to get one of these for a relative currently driving an A Class.

I suppose you can get Auto boxes, but will they be like the Smart Four-Two auto-box is a question I dearly would like an answer to for that is the other car I am considering.

I'll admit to not being the biggest fan of small cars...I wouldn't feel very safe on the motorway etc next to lorries and 4x4s.

That's the issue, one may not "feel" safe but do we hear of lot of accidents with Smart cars on the motorway?

I am hopefully picking mine up on thursday.
I went for a test drive and I used it on A roads and then went on the m4 to see how it coped and it was fine.
It sits at 80 with ease and you forget you are driving a small car.
It feels like a mini-Lexus with all the gizmos and mine just qualifies for 5 year warranty.

I've had an auto iQ2 for 2 years now. It's a CVT so whilst not perfect it is light years better than the smart's box (and I had 5 smarts). I find the iQ to be better than the smart in every area and once you've learnt how to get the best from the CVT it is fun to drive. It's not very quick to 60 but once wound up it will quite happily stay at 80+ leptons on the motorway. I find it far more relaxed than the smart on the motorway too - it's not as badly affected by crosswinds but being tall you do still notice them.

Some have had issues with an easily scratched/marked interior but I haven't noticed this at all, I do regularly coat the interior with 303 aerospace spray though. The blunt nose is susceptible to stone chips but apart from that I've had no issues at all with mine. I have however never got near the claimed 60+mpg - 50ish is the best I've seen but then I do rag it.

I've sat in the back of mine once for all of 5 miles and that was enough. The front seats and dash are staggered to free up room in the back but it is still small. Up front there is no issue - feels huge, like the smarts.

Had one as a courtesy car.

One of the most pointless and disapointingly built / finished cars I've ever driven.

Performance and handling are verging on non-existent, too.

The C1 and Aygo make the IQ look like an overpriced joke.

I quite like them, however I find the fuel consumption figure a bit dissapointing looking at the size of the car and engine.
As a comparison I have an 11 year old 1.3 Auto Toyota Yaris that is returning the same consumption figures in and around town. I thought things would have improved quite a bit in that time?

I have gone for secondhand white one it has done 2500 miles since july 2010,I was looking at black or silver but they are quite rare.
It is an ideal choice because I only do 6,000 to 8,000 a year due to getting free travel on the trains and parking.
It is about saving money and petrol prices are never going to drop.

I've hired both an IQ and a Mustang this year and I reckon the former probably made me smile more than the latter. Seriously awesome if you take a wrong turn - just put on full lock and it can easily 180 on most roads. Fantastic city car OP!!
