Hi All
Thanks for the help in my recent what car. I went out today and bought an RX8 as a bit of an impulse buy. They arent exactly rocket ships but so affordable now that the fuel prices have gone sky high.
It is a 231 with full leather, BOSE etc. Its a 2004 model with 57k on the clock. I picked it up for a very reasonable price. Right at the bottom of my budget. It has a full service history (its had more services than just the required ones also) and has Tax & MOT until November. Last MOT passed with no advisories. Got a 3 month warranty included also. Very good deal all round.
The biggest surpise was the insurance. I swapped my Beemer off onto the Mrs insurance since she drives it most of the time and put the RX8 on my policy instead. It was only an extra £25 on top of what I pay for the 320d!? This was with priviledge. I was expecting it to be a fair bit more. Result!!

There are loads for this money. However, this one has turned out to be a bit of a lemon. Full thread in Jap Cars explaining the issues.
Love the car, it's going back to the dealer though. I want another one, just not a broken one!!
I'm surprised at quite how much I like it being problematic.
I should hopefully get another one this coming week.
My previous car was an RX8 and guess what, exactly the same problem! Was fine for the first few months of ownership, then started taking longer and longer to start from hot until it finally wouldn't start at all. It was an official approved Mazda used car too, with only 45k on the clock! Mazda put an uprated starter motor in it and told me it was fine. It wasn't of course! The uprated starter motor just masked the underlying compression issues caused by worn rotor tips. Mazda fobbed me off for months, whilst the engine continued to lose power and sound ropier and ropier. Finally I gave up trying to get anything out of Mazda and traded it for a BMW Z4.
I lost nearly 4k in a year on the damn thing and wouldn't touch another one with a barge pole! A real shame as it looked great and was superb to drive. Shame on Mazda for the way they constantly fobbed me off when they knew exactly what was wrong with it though!
Just a word of warning to anyone considering one of these, just don't! They are cheap for a reason, the engines rarely last longer than 60k miles without needing a complete rebuild.

she starts when warm.. they really are a mine field though arent they!
mines a 6 owner!!!
only been serviced every 2 years! 
but just had her serviced & compression tested with mazda & she pulls like a train!
starts warm (thank god)
but good news is shes only done 40,000 miles.. shes the 231 & cost £2950..

Thirsty fuking things though. My old 911 was about same mpg! (turbo)
