Just been out for a blast in the sun and thought I would upload some pics of current motors, Lotus is a weekend toy but is just as good as a daily driver - lots of fun to pilot on the twisties and has unbelievable amounts of grip, enough power if you keep it on boost - my homage to 90's sports cars! Scirocco is a 2.0 tsi GT DSG and is the daily commuter at the mo.

Niiice op,

I've been thinking about one of these for my next daily driver.
I'm in a Puma at the mo' and like the idea of sticking with a light fwd b-road orientated car (though I'm sure the Elan is considerably more capable in that direction)

Would I be optimistic in thinking I could buy one at 3 or 3.5k and not have to spend much more than a grand in the first year keeping it mechanically sound? (using my own spannering ability obviously)

I've always been quite fond of these and would imagine that they will start to appreciate again in the next couple of years.

funnily enough i had a Puma up until recently (albeit the g/f's!) And the 2 are very close in terms of chuckability! The Elan is much more punchy having a turbo and it's not a heavy car - the main difference is the lack of any roll or so it seems from the drivers seat!

You can get them around that price but after looking at many I resigned to spending more to get a good clean example, and one which has not been modded in silly ways. After saying that the engines are very strong (Isuzu units) and if regulary serviced are very strong - just make sure you have the injectors cleaned if it has done some mileage! All in all and as much as it's not a rear driver on the right roads the car is fantastic fun!
