1999 Rover 200 BRM

Rewind to 6 months ago: I went to see a man about some alloys for my MGF, the really nice Abingdon addition ones. I thought this would freshen it up for Retro Riders Goodwood Weekender. Mr Wheel-Vendor opens his garage so I can load them into my car and I presented with this:




Only the night before I had been discussing with a friend the outlandish price for the one at KGF (£15K), but that we both one day really should own a BRM. Mr Wheel-Vendor then tells me he was thinking of selling it. My wife detected a disturbance in the force when a million tiny voices screamed out "Do it Nick!".

2 weeks later and some negotiations it arrived on a trailer.







While is has a bunch of history there was no record of a cambelt since 2008! Also no MOT. A few days tinkering with the help of a couple of friends saw to that!












4 days after drop off 12 months ticket obtained and it's been down to C&M The Hut a few times to get some mileage under it's belt.









I needs the end of the sills repairing and a few other small bits.

Weekender was good!

Do like a BRM, my uncle had one for like 20 odd years, only sold it relatively recently, I had one for a year or so, but Head Gaskets happened !

Didn't they have odd quilted seats? At least it stood out from the contemporary hot hatches, even if it didn't really cut it in other ways.

Fantastic find! If the NI reg is original to the car, do you happen to know who the supplying dealer was when new? I’m from NI and we had quite a few Rovers in the family, albeit never a BRM so would be interested to know which local dealer supplied it.

My first car was a rover 200vi in British racing green. Same engine but lacking the fantastic grill and interior!

Did the brm come with a LSD as standard?

It is an original NI car, I'll have a look in the history and see if there's any indication of the supplying dealer.

It did, yes. It's a torsion I believe and works very well, I have a few videos to post at some point.

It is an original NI car, I'll have a look in the history and see if there's any indication of the supplying dealer.

Think there were about 2-3 Rover dealers around Belfast in the mid to late 90's

Charles Hurst would have been one,SS Logans in Whiteabbey would have been another, Logans will probably remember selling it as the owner still works there at the MG dealership and would defo remember a BRM going out.

Robert Moore & Son, Randalstown definitely sold Rovers up until the 90's and Donnelly Group was also a Rover dealer.

Can't think too many would have been sold in Northern Ireland especially given the big orange grill would have been an acquired taste for half the population in the 90's

Might be worth getting in touch with a few Rover guys over in Northern Ireland like Robson Rover he would know a lot of folk

Never been much of a Rover or MG fan but always had a soft spot for these. It's that big orange grin and knowing it's got some grunt. Cool car.
