All season wallet buster - E60 M5
Discussion
They are fantastic cars, but definitely a Brave Pill!
My daily has been a 2005 330i for nearly 6 years now, but I'd never consider replacing it with an M5. Probably because I've got a Z4M for the M tax experience.
Those black wheels look terrible so I'm glad they are going to be silver. I wish your wallet well.

Lovely thing, glad to hear you plan a light restoration of it too!
The engine is a masterpiece and mine was very reliable, but the rest of the car does need some periodic attention. The gearbox is great fun when pushing on, but you can only really use it in S5 mode. Auto is no good really, and anything less than 5 seems pointless in manual mode.
When the weather is a little more conducive, try turning the traction fully off and you'll get access to S6 mode. The only word is brutal.
I'm sure you do this already, but warm it up properly before driving hard. I stuck to 3k rpm until it hit 75°c on the oil. It might be overkill, but given the fragility of the rod bearings and the thickness of the oil, better safe than sorry.
Enjoy the car, they don't like sitting for a long time and loads of strange faults could be battery related. Make sure the scuttle drains are clear too.
If you need new tyres I highly recommend Continental SportContact7s. Great tyres that can deal with the power at a good price. Either those or Michelin PS4Ss, but the contis are a good chunk cheaper and supposedly better.

Thanks, there’s a fair amount of that in the decision, I feel the chances to enjoy a V10 powered saloon aren’t going to increase over time, so it has to be done!
The front seats are the fully adjustable (with adjustable shoulder as well as bolsters) and are very comfortable. The active bolsters are a quirky touch, too. Merino leather is much softer and more supple than the Dakota in my E90.
You're right V10 saloons were always rare, and numbers won't increase! The front seats are the fully adjustable (with adjustable shoulder as well as bolsters) and are very comfortable. Although I think my old 330i is from a dying breed too. Nobody has been making N/A straight 6 petrols for a while.
But the Dakota leather is nothing special, just slightly better than MBs Artico that is basically plastic trying to look like leather!
The Nappa leather in my Z4 is way better than Dakota.
Keep enjoying your wallet-buster!
