Skoda Yeti 2.0 TDI
Discussion
My Swift Sport had given me 9 years of sterling service, but with a growing family and more room needed, I fancied a change.
I'm looking to get back mountain biking Enduro racing again, and fancied a mini camper and somewhere I can store the bike internally.
I wanted 4 seats, 4wd for muddy fields but something decent to drive. I remember being quite taken by the Skoda Yeti on Top Gear, so decided to have a hunt.
Had a few saved in searhces, and this one popped up in Derby.
It's a 2010 2.0 TDI (My first ever diesel), 110bhp. I wanted a 140 or 170 but they were all nortth of £6000 for 120,000+ examples.
This was at 71,000 miles for a chunk less, which allowed me to budget for a remap.
It's not perfect up close, but doors are rust free and although a low spec, it's honest with good history.
Had the stage 1 remap last week and it's got a very decent amount of midrange torque now. Took it to the Forza Horzon Launch at Gaydon, and a trip to Dovedale during half term, averaging around 54mpg which i'm impressed with.
It drives very well and i've found low floor kit on the bay and bought bits to make an internal bike rack which shold be here this week.
Hopefully it should be a good family wagon over the next 5 years or so.

I bought one as a stop gap. Over 2 years ago now, it’s a great tool. Ours is a 2016 150CR DSG. Had a subtle remap and rolling road jobby, and it’s staying with us. They certainly hold their money. Just finished doing a wheel and tyre upgrade to 16” steels, to make it a little more pothole resistant..
Enjoy your new chariot, keep the updates coming.

It sounds ideal for how you plan to use it, and by all accounts they drive better than most other small SUVs. Over 50mpg is a happy bonus too!
One of the attractions for me is they’re not really an SUV ( which I generally dislike) they’re more just an AWD diesel Golf wearing a flat cap.Cheers all.
As part of my MTB race weekend mini camper, I realised I may need all the space I can muster.
With a bit of digging, I realised there were 2 floor options - A High floor with a full size spare and foam storage boxes to level the floor with the load lip, and a 'Vario' floor that is lower probaly giving another 5 to 6" of depth, with a false floor sitting on 2 side supports. This comes with a foam cutout to go over the shallow spare wheel well to keep the floor level.
Mine came with the high floor, so I thought i'd seek out a vario floor. I bought a compresser and tyre gunk to mitigate losing the spare
Then brwosed for a vario kit: I nearly s**t myself when I saw the price of around £280 +.
Then I struck lucky, an unused set on a ebay where a chap wanted to do the reverse of what I did and go full size spare. I put a bid in just shy of £60 and it was accepted. Result.
Until I realised in my excitement it was collection only. From Devon. I'm in Stafford. Bugger.
So I sent a message to the seller asking if I could cancel - It turns out he was a lovely chap, and was my way on a road trip a couple of weeks later. He offered to drop them off, he knew the area well as he'd bought a surfboard from right near where I work.
So he dropped them off last night, I got him some beers for his trouble and i'm a happy chap. All fitted up ok, and the change to lowest setting for the bike and bed will be a 3 minute job now instead of mauling the spare out and the carpets.
Hopefully my fork mounts will be here this weekend, once i've sorted the mounts i'll get some pics up.

Look forward to reading about your experiences and progress with the Yeti. I have had my 2013 (pre-facelift) TDi L&K since Sept 2022 at 100k miles. Its now on 123k and aside from servicing and tyres its not needed anything. All still works and I would happily drive it anywhere. I bought it to replace my Subaru Forester XT and I have been very impressed with the ownership experience. I cannot see myself selling it, aside from for another Yeti. I really like the individual rear seats that can all come out to make it like a van. There is nothing else available that competes with it new or used. There is a reason well maintained ones retain their value so well. Brilliant little vehicles with a huge breadth of talent. With the Michelin Cross Climates they never have any problems on any surface in any season. Its also pretty good fun to drive.
My only real criticism of my Yeti is the boot area could be bigger. I am considering a dog guard to act as a barrier with the cabin and already have roofbars and a roofbox for trips away.
