Just heard about this from someone who was onsite tending the fire. The main garage is being extended so they have moved service/workshop to this temporary location.

That's really terrible news.

I would be amazed if that was not my 997GTS in the picture - I part exchanged it against my order for the 991T last Saturday :-(

What a waste of a wonderful car.

Glad nobody was injured though and hope that the team there can get up and running again. Sad times.

That is awful.

It sounds like a very deliberate attack, with two men involved and initially setting several fires - one has to wonder at what the motive would be.

If you have a car in for a service/maintenance and it is destroyed on company premises, whose insurance covers your loss?

Has to be the OPC's, surely?

It does look like your GTS Rob (can't be many white 997 GTS cars floating about), and if so very sad news to see all of these cars badly damaged frown

My car is in there somewhere.... Not much news yet as they haven't been allowed access. Had a notification that the alarm had activated last night and now it won't pick up the tracker. I'm assuming it's a write off..

So sorry for all those who have lost their cars. I think three were on fire but smoke damage is just as serious.

I'm lucky as my new car was moved out to the showroom hours before this happened.

Very sad news.

Really? I don't think you can equate reneging on a promised sale with arson.

My neighbours father had his car in there also, they have to wait now to find out if it's a write off.

Abolsutely disgusting attack. You would expect the security would be a bit better to stop someone gaining access for a company such as Porsche. I hope they catch them. Feel heavily for anyone who's car was in there. frown

As this fire is the result of something outside of the OPC's control, you are unlikely to be able to prove that the OPC has been negligentt. Their insurer won't be interested unless there's something in the T&C's that you sign when you havnd over the car , that says the OPC is responsible for the car no matter what might happen.

Your action sholud be against the arsonist but don't hold your breath.

Claim under your own insurance and if your insurer thinks there's a chance of a recovery, let them get on with it.

Surely the claim has to be against the OPC?... The cars were picked inside there premises at the time.

Indeed - the car is under their care and they must have insurance to cover damage to clients' vehicles. No way an owner should lose their NCD for this...

From the conversations I've had with them they seem to be inferring they are liable. Anyhow still not had any feedback on the state of my car, I'm fairly certain it's toast.

Regardless of blame, the individuals who unfortunately lost their cars in this fire WILL find their premiums being increased for the next few years, its just how insurance and risk calculations work.

These factors play into the algorithms used by the actuarys. Its why you are asked questions like "Have you had any claims, regardless of blame, in the last 5 years?" when it comes to getting insurance renewal quotes.

I believe any car owner would need to make a claim with their insurance company, then their insurance company would endeavour to recover their loses. If a full recovery is made then the individuals policy would be unaffected, other than a non fault claim. Or something like that....
