After three years I’m selling my beloved Boxster which I bought from an OPC as an approved used car. I have someone from an OPC coming to look at the car on Thursday and we have a provisional price agreed pending inspection. Since I’ve owned the car it has needed a repair on the rear wing. This was done at an Approved Porsche repair body shop and it all looks as good as new. My question is do I need to declare the fact it’s had a repair when selling the car?

Should I mention it up front or just keep quiet if I’m not specifically asked the question?

Just ask yourself the question would an OPC tell you up front that a second hand car they were retailing had had some paintwork? No of course they bloody wouldn't

Answer questions truthfully but offer nowt.

Wouldn't one OPC be in a position to check a car's work carried out at other OPCs and their bodyshops?

That was kind of my view. I wouldn’t lie if specifically asked but I won’t mention it otherwise.

I thought the same but the guy said he’d already checked out the service history on the system.

I think possibly only if it was done/instructed via the OPC? An approved body shop is not an OPC. They would probably see if replacement parts were ordered via an OPC. That is just an assumption though, no idea how it exactly works.

I would probably tell him that it had a repair. If I don’t tell him and he finds out, then everything I said about the car will be questioned / no longer believed.

I think that’s right. OPC’s can look up any work done by any other OPC on a car…any time a car enters a OPC workshop it is logged (even if it is just to check something very basic)

As you say most approved body shops are nothing to do with an OPC so they won’t have that data.

Although I am not sure about them having replacement parts logged against a chassis no. I’d be amazed if they had that info.

There is no need to mention the repair. Don't feel bad about that - it's a used car - repairs are expected.

Is it on the register? Any dealer worth their salt will have a paint meter with them and will be able to tell. If they ask, don’t lie - if they don’t ask, it’s up to you what you say. I’d say nothing.

I think stuff is logged as somebody who was looking to buy a Porsche from me said he checked the system via a friendly OPC and the car had a couple of replacement clutches during the first few years of its life. I seem to remember somebody telling me that Ferrari won't sell you parts without you ordering for a specific car.

Thanks all. I won’t say anything up front but if I’m asked directly I’ll let them know.
