964 engine rebuild required

Our family will wheel the 964 out this autumn after many years in storage. To commence a recommission starting with an overdue engine rebuild. Who to consider and who to avoid please. South East based but location shouldn't limit recommendations.
Ideally someone who has a track record, UK based and will hand hold us, but not rip us off? Car has sentimental value.

If quality matters more than budget I would take it to Neil Bainbridge or Nick Fulljames.Our family will wheel the 964 out this autumn after many years in storage. Budget absolutely matters. Car has been in storage as it required this significant investment. Now due to circumstances we are wishing to have it back on the road but certainly not with an open cheque book. We don't wish to be ripped off or taken for a ride given the cost of a rebuild and value of these cars.The previous owner of my 964 took the car to Bahnsport where they removed the engine with a view to rebuild but found everything well within tolerance so it was rebuilt with some new seals and gaskets at 115'000 miles. It goes very well and uses minimal oil! What you want is a trustworthy independent that is not going to look at this as a good earner!

A name I can also recommend which are not well known are Greatworth Classics they were recommended on a PCGB Early 911 WhatsApp group. A very well known Porsche specialist told me the noise from the engine in my car had flummoxed all in their workshop (including a third party engine specialist they use) and it needed an engine rebuild. Base cost indicated at £25k and upwards
Two of the first six recommendations in this thread were part of recommending for the engine needing a rebuild….one of them effectively subcontracts for one of the others.
Took it to Greatworth Classics for a second opinion, their engine builder got his stethoscope out and diagnosed the fault as a throttle flap within 15 mins saved me upwards of £20k. Photos/Updates at all stages of process as ever with old cars things get complicated but couldn t be happier with the work/process.
Engine builds have got very expensive recently as Porsche have put parts prices up considerably and quality has gone the other way. Go with someone who will offer you a warranty on the engine for a year. If they won t walk away.

I think the point raised is that an engine rebuild can mean many things. A requirement to have the top end rebuilt and timed up appropriately is completely different to engineering new cylinder liners and a world away from opting to create a hot rod engine. Getting a quality appraisal at the beginning is surely vital.

So what's your budget? Off the top of my head if you can get any nice car back onto the road from storage for less than £10,000 you'll be doing well.
