Am I the only one wondering how a key pouch is £170!? It’s not even for a pair of them. Leather is same sort of cost.

I thought I’d get something like this and have been stunned at what I’d think is £40-50 max.

Just seems nuts to me. Minor rant finished.

From memory this was £120 with the same stitching as my seats.

I could have had the key painted in the same colour as the car too but it's pointless if it's in a case and it's easier to chip.

I'm sure a lot of people, as I did, tick the box when ordering as what's another £100+ when you consider the price of options.

Have to confess, if I was buying new, I'd have taken the same view. In the context of £k's on options, another few hundred quid is lost in the rounding. But maybe this approach is why I'm not wealthy enough to buy a brand new one! wink

I did, however, buy the overpriced painted blades to match my key for the 992. Although it's Night Blue Metallic and not especially easy to see, it feels nicer than the mottled black plastic in the hand and in the right light (or on my light kitchen worktop), looks great and just another nice reminder of what's lurking outside.

EDIT: I've just noticed in the pic, hilariously, you can't really tell the difference. But, as I say, looks good in the right light.

I did the official one as well as colour matched keys on one car in 2015 when the key still had to be slotted in. My dealer advised me not to order it as it would chip. I now have one perfect key and one chewed to death. The leather fob is too chunky and I never did any of this stuff on subsequent cars.’

Been looking at the alcantara variant aligned with the colour/stitching of the car. Prices are all over the place from a couple of quid on Ali through to 30 on Jons and a few elsewhere at £100. Fairly sure they all come from the same supplier.

Why does a key need to go in a leather case confused

The top one for £170 looks nice, even if I don't understand the purpose. Not sure about the others, they look like the cheap leather belt pouches people used to keep their phones in in the 1990s

'Cos it's a several hundred quid key and worth protecting?

I purchased two key shells. One OEM Porsche yellow grello to match my car cover, list price £125, but the OPC was clearing them at £50. The other Gulf coloured one direct from China for less than £10.

Strange thing is the Chinese copy one fits better than the Porsche original which is quite gappy between the bonnet and the side panels. Clearly a higher level of quality control applied on the Chinese production line. biggrin

Because I had also ticked the box for the key to be painted to match the car, and didn't want the paint to chip!

Why would you pay to get a key painted a specific colour and then cover it up with a case so you can't see it confused

That's like paying for a paint to sample paint job then putting a grey wrap over the top of it

Sometimes one might want to wear posh underwear to quietly satisfy one's personal preferences - it does not mean everyone else needs to know about it tongue out

Ditto. £3 (including delivery!) from AliExpress. A suede cover for the wife’s key was £4.50.

Just bought my Dad a painted Midnight Blue one to match his Macan. He loves it, perfect colour match. However, his was really expensive… £10 biglaugh

I paid the full price from Porsche on my previous one to have the key painted Gentian Blue. Dropped it once and it chipped, hence opting for overpriced leather this time round.

Sometimes it’s just nice to have, there’s no justification. I’m sure majority of people would wonder why we’d spent so much on a car that does the same job as a much cheaper one. It’s just a key/car/pair of shoes etc etc

£9.85 . Will do the job. Perhaps not quite as nice as the Porsche item, but not £160 worse!

This is what I went for, £7 on Amazon, I can now take the key out of the case because I'm not arsed if I drop it or it gets scratched. I'll put the original back on before I get rid of the car. Thanks for the idea.
