996 ignition switch

My turbo's ignition switch seems to have slipped a position, I can take the key out and it still says "Ignition key not removed", so I can't lock the car.
I may be able to wiggle the lock until it thinks the key is removed but the last time I did that, it was nearly impossible to get the key back in.
Is this something I can do a temporary repair on, until I get it fixed? Also, can an independent garage fix this or is OPC better (if keys need coded etc).
Is there any way of locking the passenger door at the moment? I can lock the driver's door with the key, but the passenger door doesn't have a keyhole.

So I did this over the weekend.
What a fiddly job for something so simple. So to add - make sure that you have long thin torx t20 - like an allen key type. My socket set type was too wide. The airvent part needs to be pulled quite hard - but it is pretty robust. Don't make my mistake of trying to take the connector part off the ignition switch (the violet part which has maybe six clips and attached the wires) it is actually to split the two plastic modules. The lightswitch is a real pain to get back on as the housing rotates and pops out when you put the plastic bezel over the top - ensure that you have the cables positioned to reduce the sensitivity and the minimum cable for the bezel just to allow it to mount afterwards. Also the lightswitch knob - a strong push to replace it - don't be scared.
My only thought was that when I had my head under the pedals with my socked feet on the headrest replacing the heating duct that maybe it is much easier from this position than from the airvent panel?
Anyway it is all back together and everything works as it should and the pride of doing it yourself versus the cost is worth it. It took me 4 hours ......... to do it again would take me maybe 45 minutes with manly touches.

Don't know what this is about but I had the "key not removed" issue (even though the key had been removed), so car would not lock via remote, basically upon withdrawing the key the lock does not click-reset so the car thinks the key is still in place.
Rapid withdrawal (haha) generally works, but spraying the insides with WD-40 equivalent sorted it for at least a year and counting. Nothing was removed.
