GT One Chertsey - Any experience?
Discussion
Whenever they are mentioned, they get very positive comments.
I have used them in the past, and my bills always seemed to be higher than I expected - and higher than other people who were having similar cars serviced at other indy's (964). But perhaps I was just unlucky, or had a particularly poor car - I seem to be the only one who has this view.
If they're convenient for you, I'd certainly give it a go. Apart from the bills, I was generally happy with the work they did so your car would be well looked after - and if you don't like them, you can always try somewhere else next time.

Exactly my thoughts, very good, very thorough, but they do charge, all well and good as the quality of work and their customer approach has to be worth something, and it is, so eyes open, accept they aren't the cheapest but will be fair and informative and you won't go far wrong.I have used them in the past, and my bills always seemed to be higher than I expected - and higher than other people who were having similar cars serviced at other indy's (964). I expect to pop the 986 back there for its next service too, I could go cheaper but no one else is 5 mins from my office so part of the premium i accept based on convenience.

Im looking at using GT One for general maintenance to my 968. Does anyone have any positve/negative experience they can share? Thx
yes, great bunch of guys and you'll be in safe handsyes, they probably arent the cheapest .. if you want cheap then you need to go to EMC in B'ham for 968's, but its a different sort of experience to a regular specialist
I have used them and they are very good but they are expensive. I always walk out of there with a list of jobs that are "advised" that don't really need doing and the bills are almost always about 30% more than I thought.
Depending on your location, I would suggest giving Jaz Motorsport in Wembley a try too. Very good work, know their stuff and sensible about what needs doing.

Exactly the same experience with me also.
Great customer service, and very friendly staff. I had PSE fitted to my 997 and they kept me well updated through the installation process, and did an excellent job.
Like the other guys are mentioning, it was'nt as cheap as other indies, but cheaper than an OPC. I went there as it was easy for my route into work, and was just being plain lazy!
As others mentioned, was more expensve than I'd thought but I'd definitely take the car back as the extra expense was offset by the service.

I had a very unsatisfactory experience of GT One with my 930 Turbo - they couldn't find why it was grabbing to the right on braking tried to sort it out with a geometry set up and gave it back no better or maybe worse, they wrongly fitted some new seals and then gave me a huge bill but cheekily told me they hadn't charged for all the hours.
I took it to Autofarm who sorted it all out and couldn't believe the shoddy advice I'd been given.
Nice guys with not much idea about earlier 911's anyway, I'm staying clear.

Funnily enough, the reason I stopped using them was not purely the cost - it was due to a brake problem on my 964. At the time, I had a problem with the ABS cutting in far too early, and basically releasing the brakes completely (rather than the rapid pulsing on / off you'd expect). It went back to them a number of times to solve this, and did cost me quite a lot of money (including replacing the control unit).I took it to Autofarm who sorted it all out and couldn't believe the shoddy advice I'd been given.

Eventually, I took the car to JZM purely to see if a fresh perspective would help. JZM solved it within 24 hours at a cost of around £100 because they'd seen the problem before (sticking accelerometer).
I didn't have any concern with the fact that GT-One didn't find the problem - I think it's a recognised issue with the 964 C4 braking these days, but it was not commonly known about back then. So if they hadn't seen it before, it's not something obvious to check.
Having said that though - and having previously said I had no complaints about their work - I do remember being surprised about one thing. Only once it was fixed did I realise just how bad my brakes had been, and just how much more powerful they were before the ABS should genuinely cut in. Each time my car was given back to me (I think it went there at least 4 or 5 times for this problem - new accumulator, new control unit etc) I was told the problem was solved. I had never driven another car to compare it to - but for anybody who had experience of Porsche brakes and 964s in particular, it should have been very obvious it wasn't fixed. The difference afterwards really was night and day. That wasn't great on their part - particularly for something that was making the car dangerous to drive.
Thanks all very much for the feedback. Im based just north of Guildford in case anyone can personally recommend another specialist in that area?
I called GT One a few days ago and their labour rate is £69+VAT/hour which puts them on par with Ninex. I know EMC is around £50/hour but its a bit far for normal servicing work.
Why do costs at GT One seem to be high? Is £69/hour high? Do they rack up the hours? Do they tend to find lots of other things wrong with the car? Feedback much appreciated.

It's more than just the labour rate thought with EMC. You could walk out there with like a whole new gearbox for an extra 30 pence. They will save you money as well by not doing sI called GT One a few days ago and their labour rate is £69+VAT/hour which puts them on par with Ninex. Have you tried Greg & Peter at Tognola. They've always been straightforward with me and prices were fine.

I'm not sure. When I used them, their labour rates were comparable to others but they are the only indy I've used where the bill was always more than I expected.I called GT One a few days ago and their labour rate is £69+VAT/hour which puts them on par with Ninex. +1 on 9E. I am in Camberley, so there are closer indys to me but I've used 9E since they opened and they are excellent. Easily my first choice.
Used them for the first time last year to sort out my blowing exhaust and came away impressed so will be returning.
Have previously used Paragon, Parr, JZM and two different OPCs. Based on experience so far I would probably rate GT One above all of them both in terms of cost and service.
