991 & time of year.

Most prospective buyers happy to let them depreciate in somebody else's garage over the winter.

I think they are selling - if they are priced correctly and provide what the buyer is looking for (be that history, mileage, colour, options or whatever else they think is essential to them).

I also think that many are either clearing the decks in anticipation of the arrival of a 991 GT3 or owners are selling in order to ‘cash in’ on the perceived rush to acquire the last of the manual, hydraulic steering, mezger engined cars before PDK, electric steering and 9A1 takes over…

I have just bought a 997.2 GT3 RS and cancelled an order for a 991 GT3.

Just noticed it is mostly the RSs that are selling - the Leeds OPC car is now showing as sold.

time of year, you see GT3's with 6 or 7 owners on which can be less then 3 years old, nothing new.

Best decision you will ever make - IMO wont be long, 7/GT cars will become far more sought after than current crop just as Porsche 911 lineup history confirms..

Have to disagree. Are the 996 models more expensive than 997 models....no. Even the 996RS has stayed around £60k for last 5 years or so. With the likes of Monkey Harris stating the 997 feeling ancient vs new GT3, many drivers will also think the same.

The 997 GT3 is a great car for the money, but it will take 10+ years before it starts to rise in my humble opinion.

Anyway, all great cars with a good spread of prices for those on different budgets.

I spent a few months (about 6 or so) looking for the right 997.2 GT3 RS, in that time the prices have risen.
When I started my search you could get a car with a few thousand miles on it at about £89k from dealers or if lucky from an OPC, most are now advertised at around the £95 - £100k mark…

They are selling at this price as evidenced by the Leeds OPC car and my own purchase.

The 997.2 GT3 has also held firm at high 70s for a sustained period.

Disagree with your 997 comment.

I can only comment on personal selling and buying experience and compared with last year prices for both 997.2 GT3s are higher and the RSs are certainly shifting at a 10% premium compared with this time last year.

For me the choice was 80k for a 2010 2 owner 997 vs 105k for a 991

25k buys me a brand new, my spec, latest and greatest technology car, and every review I read convincing me about the pdk and steering.

Its too hard to to buy a 997.2 at these prices now

If it was 70k for a 1 owner 997.2, that would be a different story and would be very much be a buy (which im pretty sure this will be the price in a couple of months after 991 are out)

A 12k miler such as Marcus's car sells for 75. Mines just done 27k miles and I paid 59 with bits and bobs sorted.
Mine isn't a 75k example With that mileage and I intend to improve some minor cosmetics .
Happy enough With it though

That's not bad going for a car which went out of production 9 years ago and cost around 85k new.

Also, you don't buy a car like that to turn a short term profit or for a depreciation free investment. You buy it to enjoy. Even if it is a classic, I wouldn't expect that to reflect in it's value for another 10-15 at the very least. In 1981 you could buy an Aston DB5 for £5000. Today it may be £250k but it is 33 years on and 50 years since it was made. Classics appear over the very long term, not what Chris Harris says this week. he has to comment on the improvements in performance but over the long game, that doesn't really matter. I can only speculate, but I would guess that a nice 996 GT3 RS, say the red on white one, would be a far better car to own in 2050 than a boggo 991, however glitzy and new smelling the latter appears today, or even a 997 Sport Classic, a 40th Anniversary or a 50th Anniversary. Even a 991 GT3 is likely imho to be seen as a first step to the 'Arcade Game' GT3, and will probably be followed by a dozen far better ones. The fact that it is faster than a 996 means absolutely zip.

End of track season, fairly predictable, to be honest I don't think that many are clearing the way for the 991 GT3, after all a decent spec GT3 will be about £110-115k and an RS about £130-140k, so loads more than the average 50-60k for an 997.1

They are great cars. If you are in the market like most threads seem to be about on here basically, Buy one and enjoy it!

996 GT cars are on the financial climb - big time..RS models in particular
997 GT cars are at worst holding rock solid and at best increasing weekly for sought after low mileage..Again RS models rapidly rising - 10 years!!! its happening NOW and in mvho the new digital stuff will just be like most modern digital merchandise - great for a while but soon forgoten..
