Hi Guys.
Anyone throw any light on this phenomenon! I would be very grateful indeed.
My Alternator started to smoke just after I had washed the car. The ignition key was in my pocket, so there was nothing running at all. VERY ODD. I immediately took the neg. terminal off the battery, and of course the smoke subsided. Thank god!
I rang my local Porsche dealer who were not sympathetic at all, and said ‘ if you can get it here somehow, we could look at it in the next two weeks.!!!! and not before as they were busy.
Great Service I thought on a top brand.;If it was a Fiesta, then maybe I would wait 24 hours.!,, ha ha ,!
So, as I had AA breakdown cover, including on the drive, I rang them. Within 2 hours ( as it was not life or death ) this brilliant mechanic arrived, young lad, and said ‘ I have worked on Porsche Cars before, but not changed an Alternator. He set too, and within 20 mins the burnt out item was out. 1 phone call to GSF and a replacement including a belt was put on one side awaiting collection by my AA guy.
On his return the new item and belt was fitted, engine ran fine, good charging rate, paid the bill and he left.;At this point no error coding showing. So, I took the car out for a short run, then the error coding appeared: it was a red battery, saying battery alternator fault. I thought if I stop, then re-start it MIGHT be extinguished, and it did, it went straight out, only to return once I switched the ignition off. As long as I start the engine then switch off all is good and no code error showing. Any ideas guys ??
