My wife and I are Porsche enthusiasts. I own a 991 CS and love it. H has always liked the 356. Unfortunately she can't afford the £200,000 + needed to buy one. We came across the Chesil. After a year of research she finally bought one. We knew there was work needed on it and we priced that in to the purchase price. We are in the process of restoring it. Here are a few pictures of before the restoration.

We found a small company in Bressingham Norfolk who specialize in old VW Beetles and Campers and Vans. As the Chesil is built on a Beetle chassis we contacted them and they agreed to take on the restoration. The Chesil is made up of three parts the body, frame and beetle chassis. There are a number of engine options. All are air cooled. We have an 1800 Arnie Levics modded engine.
We needed a new frame so Chesil kindley built us one which we collected this week. The beetle chassis has been media blasted and now needs new floor pans. H and I have found a great number of people who are willing to help with information and it's proving to be a very enjoyable journey. We look forward to getting the car back and driving it. The short time we had it before it went for restoration there was a lot of interest in it and it seemed to put a smile on peoples faces.
Now a few pictures as we are at the moment.

These look amazing, but I've never driven one.
Always struck me as a posing car rather than a driving car. A Boxster S would be for more fun.
A Caterham would be the drivers alternative.
A 987 Spyder would be the mid-ground, offering a level of practicality.
I feel your missing the point. These aren't meant to be 'drivers cars'.....they're more for something a bit different. Something to poodle along in and have a completely different experience that doesn't cost huge amounts of wedge. I wouldn't chop in my 981 C for one....!Always struck me as a posing car rather than a driving car. A Boxster S would be for more fun.

I know it's a terrible thing to admit on these forums, but I do get quite a bit of pleasure with how a car looks. These do look very nice.
There was a nice, low-mile 1961 356b cabrio on yesterday's SVWA Auction, around 95k but I think it did not sell, not sure why.

Actually looking at one right now, the wife has just gone off for a drive. Very pretty.
Did the wife enjoy the drive out in the Chesil? Then a dose of sensibility broke out about how it would be used, it was sad as she has had her heart set on one for years.
The day didn’t end too badly though as it looks like we have bought a Boxster on the way home. Although it is brown with beige interior FFS!

As I said these look amazing, but they are more of a car to cruise and be seen in.
Each to their own, there are no right or wrongs and it's nice to see these lovely cars being driven on sunny days.

No I'm not missing the point. I get pleasure with how a car looks, but I also require it to be a great drive.

When you say there are no right and wrongs, most of these I see will have Porsche badges on them so at that point, there are a lot of wrongs. As I said these look amazing, but they are more of a car to cruise and be seen in.

Just curious why you think that is wrong? It’s fibbing I’d say
To me it seems like fun. Not my cup of tea but still fun.
