Cost of respray OPC?
Discussion
Can anyone suggest what would be reasonable to expect from official Porsche body shop for front end respray on my 993 targa for the windscreen forward? There is no corrosion or repair it is just for minor stone chips? I understand the rubber seals, headlight washer jets will need replacing as good practice...
Just want some guidance to understand if I am getting value for money or if I should stick with my very good independent.
Any help much appreciated....

Hi
I’ve had 3 cars from OPC s … all 2 or 3 year old, all had cosmetic work done at the OPC
My sales guys is very honest and every time they have repairs done they use smart repair guys, unless it’s a full blow over on the front in which case it costs them about 800 quid cost, my guess will be about 3 grand to a customer. Note - most franchise OPC do not have bodywork areas in the dealership so contract it all out. Paintwork is pretty much guaranteed to be contracted out.
I had both the rear wheel vents on my 981 done free of charge shortly after purchasing my first Porsche and he told me it cost them 200 quid, each area had about 20 little pepper chip spots and the work was immaculate, and a tricky colour - rhodium silver.
It’s easier just getting a few smart repairs, the quality is really fantastic nowerdays

the thing here is what are you after ?
a bare metal full body work respray from the top guys is circa £20k
these are todays prices for a car which is a keeper and will look flawless.
yes you can have blow overs and the rest in between , normally temp ownership to aid resale.
if you spray a 993 front end only you will notice it's been done imo, 20 year old paint vs new paint don't match, I see loads of 964's at shows which stick out like anything with 1/2 jobs.

Enquired with a bodyshop the Porsche OPC near me use (same franchise family owners). 4k for front end blow over. Bumper, bonnet and wings. Another big body shop (P don’t use) said 2.5k. I’ve since had other small bits sprayed due minor damage and matching speed yellow was a horrid task so I’m never bothering with a blow over for chips.
I don’t mind stone chips myself so it’s all good. Unless someone dings my car! Just touch up pen now. Letting go of stone chips was liberating. I was ocd when I first got it. That and stopping worrying about mileage. It’s an ace feeling.

Give Tom at www.tomhorsburgh.co.uk a call. His work is excellent.
Not sure where you are based or whether you are willing to travel...
I had the bonnet & front PU of my 987 Boxster painted at an independent bodyshop near Bristol last year. I agonised over who I could entrust the work to as I've had shoddy work done in the past on previous cars & was worried about having a poor job on my Boxster. It needed to be done as I picked up a rather large area of damage to the front PU from a rock that got thrown up by a car travelling in the opposite direction.
I carried out a huge amount of research & a name that kept coming up was JB Auto's in Longwell Green, Bristol. Jason, the owner, is recommended on numerous occasions on various Pistonheads forums, his business has a 'Which Trusted Trader' endorsement & his gallery of work on his website is very impressive. Portfolio includes Ferrari's, Aston's, Porsche & Lamborghini amongst others.
The quality of his work on my Boxster is outstanding, the finish is exceptional & the colour match is spot on, even under street lighting which can show up slight colour discrepancies. He stripped the bonnet & front PU off the car, stripped all trim pieces off the front PU & painted them seperately. He even sent me pictures / videos of the work in progress for me to keep for the history. I was delighted by the work & I guess that it was a reflection of the demand as I had to wait over two months before he could fit me in.
I'm sure he prices per panel & for the work that you're looking at having done I would expect it to be far cheaper than the prices already quoted above.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the input I will contact the companies that are not too far for me and see how I get on.
Will report back.
Maybe the forum could produce a list of various service providers that we can provide personal recommendations for.
Meanwhile I attach quote for interest - this company is clearly out of my financial reach..

7 grand?? I had some corner skirts painted for me at a well reputed local sprayer (KRCR). The painter had the hells Time getting a paint match as it’s a notoriously difficult colour on my car. Used all their different schemes and in the end spent a whole weekend inc his day off mixing up tests in different lights. Even got a guy with a different paint scanner from a paint manufacturer to come up one evening. Charged me 250 quid for the job. He showed me all his work he’d put in. Couldn’t fault their approach and professionalism.
Granted it’s only the corner skirts but for all that work and effort amounting to 250 makes me wonder how the body shop in your quote get to 7 grand for a front end blow over. I can understand a full car trim off respray costing over 10 grand.

Total pi$$ take.
As other have recommended I also use Ty at Rivera for paint work, he almost exclusively works on Porsche and has also painted, unofficially, the much lusted Porsche sewing machine

I was recommended the following place by 911Virgin a few years back and they resprayed a front bumper of my 997 Targa for about £200. Perfect job. They are in Slough and are busy with Porsche's all the time.
