Problems with OPC used car....advice needed
Discussion
Folks,
I bought a used Macan Turbo from an OPC nearly 8weeks ago. Within 4 weeks I had some problems with the car - a rather strange knocking noise from the drivetrain when under load and a corroded alloy wheel. They were busy and couldn’t get the car in for 3weeks. Even though I sent a video to the OPC of the noise they can’t replicate it - strange as it does it every time I take the car out. I also offered to take them out in it when I dropped it off but the said not needed! The dealer is shrugging their shoulders of both things.
The dealer isn’t that close to me and they want me to pop in to take a technician out - thing is that will cost me a day of my time.
Where do I stand? Have I given them sufficient chance /opportunity to resolve the problem? I don’t want to get stuck with a car that goes pop and then Porsche say it’s wear and tear and not covered by the warranty.
Thanks in advance.

You gotta be more insistent with OPC. You have provided a video of the problem and detailed it. Book it in, get a courtesy car and tell them you don't want it back until its fixed.
You have to give them the opportunity to fix it before thinking of rejecting the car, but do so on your terms. Easy

/\ Excatly this.
Had the same sort of problem on a GT3 before, they said they couldn't replicate it.... so I said I'd leave the car with them until it was resolved....keeping the courtesy car in the meantime..
Problem solved within two days...
They can be absolute sods these days, lost all care relations by sticking young idiots in the customer facing roles who don't have a clue.
Stick to,your guns chap and keep an update going....

You need to keep at the OPC and push the problem up the ivory tower. Did you not spot the corroded alloy before buying? Did you view the car before purchase?
Regarding the OPC not being local, as it was your decision to purchase from a distant dealer you accepted the potential for this hassle if problems arose. Problems have arisen so you need to travel, this isn't the OPC's problem.
What I would also say, is there another dealer in the same group close by as they may agree to let them deal with the problem.

Sorry I’m not buying into your comment regarding I chose where I bought it from - it is a main dealer so I should be able to go to another main dealer to get rectified, thing is the car isn’t right so now it’s down to them to sort and it shouldn’t be at my inconvenience- you seem to be missing out on why people choose to pay more for a car from and Approved Used car NETWORK!Regarding the OPC not being local, as it was your decision to purchase from a distant dealer you accepted the potential for this hassle if problems arose. If you disagree, fine. If the problems you are experiencing are covered by warranty than any official centre will be able to deal with it. As it seems you have issues with the condition of the car at the point of sale and not warranty related then you will have to deal the dealer you bought it from.
Why would a completely separate company take on someone else's problem? The dealers might all be under the Porsche brand but there are a few separate legally independent companies that make up the network. Porsche UK own Porsche Retail Group which I believe only has 5 centres. The rest are owned by other companies.
I know exactly why people buy from the official network, we hope the extra cost will get us a better car with less problems, I bought my 911 from Reading, lovely car that still had its issues but my service experience at their hands was so catastrophic I would pay extra to make sure they didn't work on my car ever again.

Interesting- that’s the centre I bought from!!!! Looks like we’ve both suffered at their ineptitude! Why would a completely separate company take on someone else's problem? That’s really disappointing to hear about Reading. Both my Porsche’s came from them (AFN at the time) and I had wonderful service from them, even sorting a loose anti roll bar after a Castle Combe track day at a moments notice. Why would a completely separate company take on someone else's problem? I expected an awful lot better from their service department, quite frankly I have never had a worse experience from a garage of any sort in over 30 years.
The sales side was very good and I would buy from the salesman again but not while he is at Reading.
The service department is just dire, the only thing they excel at is excuses to avoidcresponsibility for wrecking something. The whole process that swings into action after a car is damaged is slick, well practiced and fully intended to grind a customer down.
Wish I never dealt with them at all.

Same here, my experience of used car sales was very good but everything went wrong with service.
I assumed being in the same building as HQ would mean cut above the rest, an assumption that was 100% wrong and has proved very costly. I could have warrantied the car for over 4 years just on the bodyshop costs alone.

Don’t hang about, go to the porsche website and put a complaint in... that will sort things out quick time.
OPC Reading service is awful, my car broke down and was taken there by the AA. Reading were more interested in finding lots of extra problems that they could bill me for (non-warranty work) and suddenly became very rude and indifferent towards when I politely declined the work.
Furthermore once the car was fixed they insisted I come and collect the car from them (an hours drive away) and I challenged them on this I was told “it’s in your terms and conditions of warranty”. So I said I would speak to Porsche Assistance to confirm this, instead next morning Reading called back and said they would get the AA to deliver the car back.
Looks like OPC Reading is the one not to send your car to!

Have a look at https://www.theaa.com/car-buying/legal-rights and then call your local trading standards. Had the same problem and I have decided to walk all the way.
