Here is a photo of typical Nikasil polishing marks after 30K. There is no depth to them and as you can see the honing marks are still present.

Great info as always.

Out of interest, what engine is that? And is Nikasil still in use on 991.2 GT3s and Turbos? Or just the Mezger era?

Is that one of your company's liners Barry or an original Porsche one?

Arcamalpha, mainly due to being so busy with the M96/7 engine repairs we have not delved into much newer models problems yet - so I have no personal knowledge of their construction.

Thewatchbloke Porsche didn't fit liners into these engines - the crankcases were cast solid alloy with localised silicon rich areas in the cylinder bores and were open deck. Ours (as shown) are almost identical to the 996/7 turbo and GT3 cylinders in that they are all alloy with Nikasil bores and fitted into the cylinder block with precision and support locations.

Sorry, I should have said an original Porsche cylinder to avoid confusion!

My 997's engine was totally rebuilt by your company 31,000 miles ago, it's good to know that my liners should still be looking like that with the cross hatching still visible.
