Had a test drive for an hour or two this week. Not enamered by the noise, I’m coming from a 997. If I’d fitted an aftermarket box and it droned like that I’d have taken it off.
Others happy with it?

I have a 991.2 GTS (came from a 981 Boxster gts, one of the best sounding cars I’ve heard)

At first it was pretty quiet, but now I’m on 3000 miles, it’s really opened up and sounds much better.

Take a look/listen and see what you think.
To my mind .2 is quieter.

Agree with one of the comments, sport is to contrived, only a step away from chavtastic F type.
Done lots of miles in my 997 4S with the roof down since 991 test drive and IMO it sounds much better. Can’t get excited about piling in £60k to get the newer car.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks the F type sounds dreadful

I felt the same too but I now love the sound of my T and the improved agility of the car and general brilliance more than makes up for it. I much prefer this car with its low end torque to my previous 997.1 and 997 GTS and I wouldn't want to go back. As someone else has pointed out the sound apparently improves with more miles. I really like hearing the turbo's whistling so again the sound is very different to previous generations and the auto rev matching feature is quite addictive too. I'm glad I took the plunge despite similar misgivings.

It’s pretty subjective the noise but I really like the 991.2 noise and just prefer the 991.2 over the 997.

When I was in the market for one of these recently, I drove the 991 gen 1 and gen 2 back to back (both pdk gts) and thought the gen 2 was massively lacking in the aural department, and I also didn’t enjoy the drive as much as I did the gen 1. The gen 2 just seemed to be a little too artificial in feel, and I needed to be doing about 20mph faster in any given condition to feel the same connection and excitement from the drive.

Needless to say, I now have a gen 1 gts sat on my drive and love every second of driving it, even if I’m just going to the shops !!

I drove a 991.2GTS in January as I fancied a new toy. Drove there in my old 996C4S with PSE and went for a drive for an hour or so. I didn't fall for the car at all, possibly due to it being PDK but the sound was sorely lacking, my 996 sounded miles better on the way home.

So my dream of a new GTS was shelved and I decided to keep the 996 and bought a Cayman R to run alongside it, and saved about 30k in the process.
