Is PIWIS III system available to enthusiasts?

I think it would be very useful to customise your one vehicle, especially if you intend to keep it ‘for ever’.

No I don't think so or its frighteningly expensive. Durametric is what keen enthusiasts go for. I used one and it was good. I don't have one myself but I'm thinking I should get something.

I use a POCOM scan tool and diagnostic software from Gendan in Swansea. It offers equivalent vehicle diagnostics and module programming as the PIWIS tool.

Interesting, I've not heard of POCOM before but it looks excellent. No need for it now but will bear it in mind for the future.

What is the most popular diagnostic system for a 992?

My car is now 3 years old, so I think it’s time to poke around the settings.

I use a Launch X431 on the Caymans, I find it pretty good, probably not quite dealer level but used by a lot of mechanics. There are plenty of demonstration videos available for coding etc.

That reminds me, I have ~4 year old iCarsoft POR II

It didn’t support 992 model 3 years ago. I must check if they have updated the software.

I had an iCarsoft POR III it was worse than useless. Sold it on one of the 718 forums and got most of my money back.

Take a look at rennlist. Quite a few there own PIWIS III so whilst expensive I don't that it is totally daft.

However it is very very complex and those that can use it in the main got there by long trial and error.

Unless you have a real passion for it you are likely to be better just paying someone. It is not - oh heard is a nice option let me tick it. But module are module grunt work much of which is reported to be in German. It is not for the faint of heart

I use PIWIS III, I bought the dongle from Aliexpress.

Took 2 days to arrive and cost about £35.

Thread on Rennlist tells you everything you need.

I just installed the Virtual machine on my main SSD, didn't bother with an external.

What I've learned is that if you're going to get into the nitty-gritty of fault diagnosis or coding, PIWIS III is great, as is Foxwell NT530.

Durametric enthusiast @ £300 is also good for datalogging, camshaft deviation, etc.

If all you're after is looking for codes and then using AI to solve issues, get an Icarsoft, Foxwell, or rig a cheap PIWIS 3 up as suggested above.

My mate has a 718 GTS thing - we used a £50 generic tool to diagnose camshaft and timing issues. The dealer will take care of the rest.

I have Duramteric too, but the cheap PWIS is far more powerful, you can do coding like changing the steering on a Carrera to GT3, or Boxster/Cayman to GT4 steering etc. But, Durametric is very quick to plug in, read codes and read live data etc.

Unless they've updated it very recently, Durametric isn't fully compatible with at least some later cars. I emailed them and they said that although they don't officially support the 718, it is known to work on the 718 up to 2022. My Durametric won't read all the modules on my 2022 718. I don't know about other models.

I’ve had an annoying error message on start up the fan in my drivers side LED headlight was faulty. Finally got round to replacing it today and cleared the fault codes with the Launch X431.
